i love it there to be honest but have only 2 grumbles.

1 - why cant they open an 9.00 am as I normally have to sign on around then so its only the 1 bus trip.

2 - its a shame the newspapers have been taken off the walls in the bogs and replaced with witherspoons job adverts - i want to drink there not frigging work there (as I dont work)

Clean, Safe and Cheap
7 / 10
Blackwood's 'Sirhowy' Wetherspoon is much the same as you would expect from the pub chain. Clean, safe and cheap. Easily one of Blackwood's most popular pubs (especially for the first few years of it's opening). Still doing very well today. Situated at the top end of the High Street, The Sirhowy offers a clean and spacious environment with easily the greatest selection of beers, wines, lagers, spirits and champagnes in town. The clientele are as diverse as the range of drinks, and the pub is regarded as a socially safe venue. During the day, the pub is inhabited by mostly the unemployed - though a fair percentage of trade comes from shoppers and workers popping in for a lunchtime bite to eat. The quality of both the drinks and food are generally very good - and special offers are aplenty! The staff and service are both very good, but sometimes you get that 'I'm in McDonalds' feeling when the uniforms hit you. On the downside, I've always felt The Sirhowy never manages to express an addictive need to regularly meet up with friends there. Quite why this is, I do not know because it is the closest pub venue to where I live and guess at putting it down to the lack of background music, and/or feeling too surrounded by open space once the main evening drinking crowds have moved on elsewhere. Also, on the downside is I've noticed that the Kronenberg Blanc never seems to be on. In all, a very good pub with only a few minor niggles. The Sirhowy is here to stay.
