The New Foresters

There are some very strange people out there if they think that this pub deserves a negative review!!!!

My wife and I have just spent the weekend staying in the attached accomodation, which was comfortable,clean and well presented....so, having stayed in the accomodation, we were able to sample the breakfast, which was outstanding!! There were cereals available, along with fruit juice, toast (with jams and marmalade) and one of the best full fry ups you could ask for.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming....particularly the owner, Dawn, who couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was enjoyable.

with regards to the pub itself....the decor COULD be seen to be outdated, but it in no way spoils the visit.....we actually thought it added to the "atmosphere" that the owner is trying to achieve.....the drinks on offer were varied.

The late night "club" which takes over the upper floor of the pub, is very popular.....but it is probably not for anybody over the age of 30!! it is definately aimed at the younger generation.......the music is also very loud.......but CAN'T be heard from the accomodation area.

Overall, a very good pub with great staff and a very pleasant owner.

but they should extend the dance floor its a bit small other than that its great

Clearly the reviews from 2008 are from the same bloke - probably got chucked out. Place is always packed on Saturdays (late) and its the only 'old fashioned' bar left in Blackwood. Anyone who moans about the 'bric a brac' is being petty - you go into any irish bar and it looks the same. The food was good when I went there and decent portions.
Also the toilets were fine. No its not wetherspoon but do we want that all the time???

Totally agree with other reviews. Total cess pit. Toilets are a joke. It's the type of place you wipe your feet on the way out. How this place stays in business is a mystery to me. It also has a B&B above it, but that looks hideous, although not used it myself. Don't stay there on the weekend if you're looking for rest as there's a late night disco till 2am or so. Generally frequented by young kids (many I'm sure are underage) and men who are old enough to be their dads. Never tried their food, never been brave enough! A good place if you're looking for a perv at some young girls, if thats your thing! Personally I think you should ask for some ID before you walk out of there with a girl, you might live to regret it and end up on the sex offenders register. It is a dark pit hole that should otherwise be avoided. Not been there for many years due to its severe decline. But still wary of its reputation and the fact that queues of kids can be seen outside.

A mate and myself (we're from Risca and Cross Keys) read steveo's review and just had to check out the Foresters. Before we even got inside the pub there was some crudely written sign on the door informing us that we could only use the toilets if we were drinking in there. What is it about this pub and the damn toilets!? Haven't laughed so much in ages! Plus they really are the filthiest toilets we've ever seen. Anyway, we had a quick bottle of Newky each and left cos the pub was clearly dead. WE ARE DEFINITELY OFF BACK THERE FOR THE WEEKEND HIT. DISCO AND ALL! Gotta see this place in sleazy full swing! Gotta give it 'two stars' for managing to stay in business.
