I wish I had have read the above before ordering my food!!
  1 / 10
A leaflet arrived through my door for The Bengal Brasserie. It claims that this restaurant will 'change my perception of Indian dining'. On 22/01/2014 I decided to try this out.
We chose to order takeaway and have it delivered. The flyer claims (All in capital letters too!)
'ALL TAKEAWAY MEALS ARE DELIVERED IN SPECIAL INSULATED BOXES TO MAINTAIN THE FRESHNESS AND HEAT'

Well the first thing is it took just over and hour and a half to be delivered, now I don't mind waiting, good food takes time to prepare and as the leaflet delivered to me claims that this establishment have won European food, curry club and masters satisfied awards (to name but a few) I thought I would let the chef work his magic, without me phoning up and hurrying him along I had spent the best part of £50 after all!!

Eventually the food did turn up, everything was in place ready to receive this feast from the east.

The first thing I noticed was that an item I had ordered was missing, but this was replaced by a Raitha, which I hadn't ordered. I still wasn't overly fussed....Sometimes mistakes do happen and ordering over a telephone can distort the voice.....Meat Samosa can sound like Mixed Raitha (I guess?!)

On opening the containers for the starters we had ordered I found them to be almost cold, I would describe them as luke warm at best.
This was strange as the flyer had assured me that (In capitals again) 'ALL TAKEAWAY MEALS ARE DELIVERED IN SPECIAL INSULATED BOXES TO MAINTAIN THE FRESHNESS AND HEAT'
I decided to open and try our main dishes, all of these were in the same condition our starters, luke warm.

So after waiting an hour and a half for a wrong order of cold food to turn up I decided to phone The Bengal Brasserie and complain.

A female answered and was polite enough. I told her my issues with the meal and she informed me that she would investigate and get back to me.
Around 5 mins later I was called back by the female again. I was told that the mistake on the order was written down wrong...(She had trouble reading from the list of food I had ordered but could assure me that the one item that was wrong she could read perfectly)
As for the cold food she could offer no explanation as to why it had turned up that way. I told her I was having issues with it turning up cold too as their brochure states (yes it honestly is in capitals) 'ALL TAKEAWAY MEALS ARE DELIVERED IN SPECIAL INSULATED BOXES TO MAINTAIN THE FRESHNESS AND HEAT'.

I asked how this could be rectified, that waiting an hour and a half for cold food was not acceptable. They offered as way of compensation.......an apology. That really put the warmth back into my food!!
I asked if this was all they were going to do, to which the reply was a resounding 'yes'

Well that was the end of that as far as I was concerned, I informed the lady that this would be the last time I ordered from their establishment, to which she was did not seem to be to fussed about.

So I microwaved our dinner and me and my wife set about eating it.

Now readers (if you are still with me) I promise you this is not malicious in any way, I do not put many reviews on here, and I do not believe I have ever put a negative review on; you are welcome to check....

The food was THE most disappointing Indian meal I have ever had the misfortune of eating.

The Bhaji's were very greasy
I had a Jalfrezi, which other than tasting of hot...tasted of very little else.
The Tandoori Chicken Bhuna, which my wife ordered was bland
The Bombay Aloo was anaemic and flavourless
Some of the poppadum were stale

This was to the point of if were sat in this establishment I would have had no hesitation in sending it all back, I would not say the food is horrible, because to be horrible it has to have taste first!!
Now I am not sure if microwaves ruin a good Indian meal, but I would guess not.
But as it was now two hours after ordering it and it was getting late and at this point We had all but given up on eating a hot meal, so begrudgingly we eat what we could.

All in all I would agree with the recent negative comments on here. Bad food and bad customer service.

I would implore you not to make the same mistake as me!! Order somewhere else, there are a plethora of great Indian restaurants in Kent. I would rather drive miles to avoid eating at this one!!

Aldi do better curries in a tin.

Don't bother wasting your hard earned cash in this place. I adore Indian food and am always open to new chefs and their interpretations to dishes but this restaurant is truly bad. I don't usually write these kind of things but I hope by writing this I can warn unsuspecting customers of the low standards. With new eateries I stick to basics as I find if they can get these right then bobs your uncle.
Our onion bhajees were thin and tuff to chew through with little taste to them, it felt more like chewing on a chamois leather.

The meat biryani was poorly seasoned with nothing else but meat and rice. The lamb in it was so tuff I nearly bent my fork trying to pick a piece up. The veg curry was bulk buy from the cash and carry, it was so soft I could've sucked it through a straw.

The keema nan meat was so micro wafer thin, that in places it simple didn't exist. The chicken tikka madras seemed more like a curry soup with a dollop of curry powder. I paid £26 for the order and was so disgusted most of it went straight in the bin. It's outrageous that they charge top notch money for second class food.

I called the manager to complain but got fobbed off by a teenage girl who could only use words with 2 syllables or less. I am yet to receive a call back!

Very disappointing
  2 / 10
I had been meaning to visit the Bengal Brasserie for some time as they keep dropping me menus through the letterbox saying how many prestigious awards they have won. Tonight I went to try it for myself.

Unfortunately the food they served me would never have won even the easiest of awards to achieve. The prawn puri starter was an unnatural shade of orange and tasted of nothing much at all except a sweet mush (I'm positive it shouldn't have been sweet or bright orange!) - certainly not of prawns or spices.

The main course consisted of lamb that was so overcooked it also tasted of nothing. in a sauce that tasted merely of limp tomato and served with "mushroom rice" that seemed to be overcooked, tasteless yellow rice with one mushroom cut into it. I got half way through and gave up. None of the spices in the meal as a whole tasted like they'd been carefully thought out and nothing seemed like it had been freshly and lovingly prepared. In fact, just before each meal came out (mine and others) I hear the ping of a microwave. I bet the judges who gave the awards didn't get reheated meals.

For a Saturday night I was surprised at first that there were only 2 tables in, but having tasted the food that surprise went away.

To give them their due, they didn't charge me for the meal as they seemed to agree that it wasn't very good. I left a tip to cover the cost of my drink and a little for the waiter (who wasn't great but has to make a living somehow) and came home to pass on the information to others.

My local takeaway is 3 times better. Stay at home!
