Shambles
I used to go in this club regular, pre 2008. The club has declined rapidly over the last two years,it's basically like something out of a 'wild west' movie. The general feeling of the members is the club is in complete chaos. The committee appear to neither , know, nor care. Not the type of place I would take a female, especially in the evenings. I don't even know the 'opening hours' of the club, the hours are changed so regulary. The lounge is nicely decorated but no longer appears to be a 'lounge', more of 'kids' play area. The games room is a 'mis-match' of 'junk' decor and 'cast offs'. The concert room appears to have been re-decorated on my last visit, but from what I can gather is hardly used thesedays. I remember this club from the 70's, through to mid 2000, and it was a great establishment, the committee were diligent and responsible. On the rather minimal 'plus' side, the beer is reasonably priced (just) and is consistantly good, though I suspect this is down to the landlord, steward of the premises. Good parking facilities, though I aren't encouraging drinking and driving. Most of the people I knew when I frequented the club now go elsewhere, I think this is down to the ineptitude of the club officials. A 'w.m.c', was always intended to be a relaxed, safe, comfortable environment, which catered for individuals and families alike, unfortuneately the East End Park is no longer this. The club has , I think, several amateur football teams, who by all accounts do very well, and probably deserve more support than the club offer. The club used to have a 'massive' angling section, which was known far and wide, I believe it had a 'bowling' section too, probably more sport related sections too, bizarrely no support is offered to any form of 'rugby' related teams, unlike many of the surrounding clubs. The best days to go in the club are 'bank holidays', afternoon and evenings, with plenty going on,good entertainment and a darn good laugh, though don't stay too late, trouble is always around the corner. For me, the best thing that could happen to this club is a 'total' change of 'committee'. The members have lost all confidence in the existing 'committee', while the 'non members' can't get enough, though it seems the limited mentality of the existing committee is that 'so long as money goes over the bar, then thats good enough. I must stress, these are my opinions only, by all means, pay a visit, and make up your own mind.
