What a nice place to relax and eat
  10 / 10
Having travelled for some time on the motorway and feeling rather hungry, we decided to stop for something to eat. We took one look at the motorway service station which was packed and decided no way would we stop there. We decided to come off the motorway at the next junction to try and find a nice village pub. What a good decision that was! We found ourselves very quickly into Collingham and found the Half Moon pub. It was a Sunday and Sunday roast was on offer at a very good price. We found a warm welcome as we went in and ordered soup and Sunday roast. The pub was very clean (including the washroom)and the food superb. My husband had a lovely beer and my mother and I two very good capuccinos. Unfortunately, due to the portions being quite generous, we had no room left for dessert! The service could not be faulted. We will definitely revisit this pub whenever we are in the area again.

Think twice before eating here
  1 / 10
Being a local resident to The Half Moon Collingham I have enjoyed many great evening sat in the large garden eating excellent food. However it has been some time since I have been and decided to take my 3 children there on Thurs 12th Aug 2010. Wow, how things have changed. Although I didn't instinctively think this as the menu included some of the well known specials of old. Including thier delicious 6oz Aberdeen Angus Burger. To my utter surprise what I received was nothing short of aweful and a complete breach of trades description. This thing could not be further from its description. In fact I have eaten better burgers from a roadside van or funfair. It certainly was not 6oz of prime Angus beef, and the delicious cheddar cheese that normally sits on top was replaced with a supermarkets own brand of wafer thin processed cheese slice. As for the childrens meals. These too were aweful in appearance. The fish bites and scampi respectively were burnt and severly overcooked. The chips were still greasy and the sides of beans and peas resembled a poor school dinner. What really took us all by surprise was the large rat, YES RAT, that scampered past us whilst we ate. Now taking into consideration it is semi rural and we were sat outside. However I have never seen a rat at 5.15pm saunter that close to humans. This rat was clearly very comfy in his/her surroundings. Not long after the first appearance of the rat did it appear again right next to us in the bushes. My kids have never seen one so found the entire situation amuzing. To conlude:

The food is poor at best. A million miles away from where it once was.
The one pint of Fosters I had tasted poor. Clean pipes required.
The spectacular view of wildlife (well vermin) is a plus point I think.
