Malt Shovel
  10 / 10
Called into the Malt Shovel on the off chance that we might get a decent pint and a meal I wasn't disappointed a lovely wood fire greeted us and the Marstons was a lovely pint and the meal cooked to perfection, we would definitely go back again.

Great night out.
  10 / 10
There are six of us who like to travel around looking for different places to eat. So it was quite by luck that we stumbled across this village and its fantastic little pub. The minute we walked in we were made to feel really welcome by the landlord ( a very jolly type of guy, I think his name was Steve) and his lovely barmaid. The locals made us feel at home (even though their local football team had lost that day) and with the lovely open fire in the eating area it just made it a very welcoming experience. The beer was excellent and I have to say that the rib-eye steak was cooked to perfection. My friends had the chicken and rump steaks which they all agreed was again perfectly cooked and presented. A real unexpected "Jewel in the Crown".
You may need to invest in a map to find this tucked away little gem but I can assure you it is well worth the money.

Warm welcome, cosy and fantastic food and pedigree! Recommended
  10 / 10
Was apprehensive after seeing another review on here but I must assume it refers to a previous landlord.
The current landlord is also named Steve and he also does the cooking.
I found the whole atmosphere to be very welcoming.
With a coal fire in both the lounge and bar areas and, I was informed, new carpeting throughout, the restaurant makes a very nice dining environment which complements the great food (I had a rib-eye steak, cooked perfectly!).
The Pedigree was very good and I can be a bit picky about my beer so that is a recommendation in itself.
The landlord was very friendly and jolly and I found the young lady behind the bar to be pleasant and polite.
Before dining, we did spend half an hour in the bar side of the pub and found the locals to be chatty and friendly and very knowledgable about the area which was of interest to me having just moved into the area.
On the whole, I would heartily recommend a visit if you're ever in the area, whether for the lovely food or just for a pint, a chat and a warm!

Dont go. Very clicky and unwelcoming
  1 / 10
Went to pub last night and have never been made to feel more unwelcome. Ignored at first then the manager Steve was very aggresive towards me when I asked if i was going to get served. Quickly drunk my drink and left. Never going back. Dont go if you want friendly atmosphere.
