The Great British pub has played an important role in British society, right from Roman times through the Middle Ages and up to the present day. The pub has always maintained its focus as the place to go – to relax, to celebrate, to mourn, to talk, to drink and increasingly to eat.

The Ship Inn at Yarlside Road, Roose, tries to embrace all of these things. Proprietor Cyril Whiteside believes that delicious British food should be found in that Great British institution, the pub. The Ship Inn does not try to be pretentious with ‘fine dining’, Cyril believes in simple British food at affordable prices. British classics that warm the ‘cockles of your heart’ all prepared from food provided by local suppliers and cooked and prepared fresh on the premises.
