Crab to start & belly pork for main course - fabulous My girl friend had arranged a suprise birthday party in one of there private rooms last saturday, after we had been for a wonderful diner previously.
We first heard about The Bay Horse in Hurworth by reading about darlingtons first Michelin Awarded pub in the local newspaper, on our first visit we booked in on a Tuesday Evening, they have a french menu every tuesday, 3 course diner and a glass of LP champagne for 24 pounds, brilliant on all counts - food, service and value.
On this occaision the waitress offered to show us the private rooms and on the way home I mentioned it would be great for a group of friends to have diner in one of the private dining rooms as they had a great feel.
So on Saturday the misses said we where doing diner just the two of us, on arrival we grabbed a pint and gin & tonic at the bar, where the manager offered us a table in the snug whilst our table was been prepared.
In the snug were a dozen friends, champagne and canopes - it was a great start to the evening and it just got better, I had the whitby crab starter, the best belly pork ive ever had for my main course and a delightfull English cheese board to finish.
The whole party commented on the excellent standards of the food, service and especially the red wine, Medoc, it was fabulous.
A must for any foodie.... Report this comment Was this helpful? Yes | No
BAY HORSE INN - Totally disagree The Bay Horse Inn Hurworth - I must comment on the previous 2 comments and ratings of this venue. The comments are totally untrue we have visited the Bay horse on 5 or 6 occasions in the past 6 months and have been completely satisfied on every occasion, The food and service are top class and I would have rated 10 out of 10 except that may make them become complacent.Let me just clarify you do not have to pay for the bread (which is all home made by the way)and are even offered more on occasions. The wine is perfectly fine for a house wine and the desserts do not cost 6 pounds in fact the sticky toffee pudding which is to die for is only £4.50. Yes if you want yr plate piled up with food this is not the place for you but we have dined in most places in this area including the so called fab Oven and this is by far the best place around - how else would they be winning awards and have regular diners every week. If you want gorgeous fresh tasty food with excellent service and a very cosy ambiance give this place a try you won't regret it.Also going to try Sunday lunch there soon , yes it's quite expensive but looks amazing and always full so need to book ahead - will comment on this when been. Bay Horse Hurworth Would not recommend presentation of food excellent quality and quantity not there. Very hot plates gave you impression of the food needing to be kept warm..... Report this comment 0 out of 2 people found this comment helpful. Did you? Yes | No
Bay Horse Hurworth I went with friends for a meal to the Bay Horse last night. Very expensive - food just ok - not happy that you have to pay for veg on top of paying for expensive main. Had to pay for bread too!! Wine expensive tasteless wine in actual fact. Desserts cheapest £6.00 nothing flash. In all food looked very fancy but did not taste as good as it looked - definitely will not recommend. Report this comment 0 out of 2 people found this comment helpful. Did you? Yes | No
