excellent!
  9 / 10
I have twice taken family to The Old Schoolhouse restaurant this month, and on both occasions we all thought it excellent. The food is all freshly prepared and much of it is locally sourced. All 8 of us (age range 18-80+) found that there was plenty to choose from. A bonus was that as there were two menus to choose from, those who didn't feel like a full 3 course meal could make a more 'snacky' selection. We all found our meals delicious.

The interior is light and welcoming with wood burning stoves/fires, comfortable sofas and contemporary dining furniture. As an old school, the ceilings are very high. The only drawback is that the restaurant could be a little warmer - but it wasn't cold enogh to spoil the occasion - just wear a jumper!

The staff were all very pleasant. One member of our party has mobility difficulties, but the staff couldn't have been more helpful, immediately providing a chair with arms, and an easily reached table.

I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

Old Schoolhouse? Would rather have been served 'School Dinner' !
  1 / 10
Took an afternoon trip along the road for some sightseeing earlier this year. Stopped by at the Old Schoolhouse for a spot of lunch. Upon entering, waiter was incredibly abrupt and rude to my wife. We weren't exactly sure where to sit and he just looked at us as if we were stupid and said 'Seats are THIS way'. He may as well have said 'Duh' to us.
Asides from this small hiccup, it would appear the quality of the food was horrendous - we both ordered fresh orange juices and were appalled to see the way in which the staff were treated by their bosses - a young waiter was severely told off for the way in which the orange was placed on the glass. Anyway, our soup for starter was to follow - it tasted and stank of feet! I mean, seriously, had they put secret mouldy cheese in it? Refused to eat.
Panini for main course - again, left little to the imagination - two slices of hot baguette filled with a mildly warm filling is just not acceptable. Was not at all 'panini' like, i.e. it wasn't toasty etc, just felt like a hot baguette.
But there's more. Dessert was a disaster. By this point I was fed up and had complained about all of the courses. When I asked to see the dessert menu, it was basically thrown at me in disgust. I ordered the rocky road - and rocky it was. I could not bite into it whatsoever.

Would NOT recommend to anyone.
