Fishermans Rest

My companion and I called at the Fishermans Rest Sunday 13th September 09. Being as it was about 4pm were very suprised to find all the quite extensive menu was available. We ordered the "Carrot soup" and rolls and found it to be a beautiful home made version of many flavours,quite yummy.Our rump steak arrived on a very large plate with what I believe was a "Diane" sauce and Sauted potatoes and three veg on the side.Now it is a very long time since this quality of steak has been in front of me, absolutely gourgeous and the veg was cooked fresh and to perfection,WoW. The sweet was what I have always known as a sylabub.....this was followed by special coffee.It has to be said that both of us enjoyed the meal very much indeed and to put the cap on it we both found the convieniences supurbly appointed and absolutely spotless which seems to be a very rare event these days.We both agreed that this "Hidden Gem" is well worth another visit or twenty if only to sample the delights of the rest of the menu.As for the staff...........wonderful. The bottom line is......Numero Uno!!!Thankyou.

I was on the Derwent river fishing yesterday and passed this pub on my way back to Belper. I was a little hungry and enquired if food was on offer. The bar-man offered me a menu and I supped a pint whilst awaiting my food. The freshly made Chicken and Sweetcorn soup was the nicest tasting I've ever had, which is the main reason I am making this review. The food is DELICIOUS. The place deserves top marks for service and hospitality. Pleasant staff and surroundings. I was told that they've just had a complete change of management. I hope this standard is maintained as it would be a shame for this place to go unnoticed. Cheers again, Fisherman's Rest!
