What a disappointment!
  3 / 10
Having read that this pub offers a good value Sunday lunch, my husband and I decided to try it as we wanted to go somewhere we had not eaten before. A 2 course lunch for £9.95 seemed reasonable so my husband had a starter and main and I had main and dessert. His breaded mushrooms were so hard on the outside that he had to hold them with one hand to get his fork into them. The mains vegetables were not cooked enough, not even 'al dente', and neither his beef nor my chicken had been carved from a freshly cooked roast joint. Beef was very thinly sliced and chicken had no skin on and therefore lacked flavour. My husband likened it to a hospital dinner, very bland and clinical. The gravy was thin too, with no evidence of any lovely meat juices. The yorkshire puddings were slightly burnt at the edge and the sausage and stuffing did nothing to improve the meal. The best part of this course was the roast potatoes which were very good. My dessert was a jam roly poly and custard, but where was the jam in this very overcooked pudding? The custard could have come straight from a can. As for the service, well the young staff were all very courteous, but I really object to being called 'guys' by the waitress every time she approached us. I am a middle aged woman not a man, and would prefer to be addressed accordingly. And when asked if we had enjoyed our meal, when we were paying, I said it had been disappointing. The young lady said she was sorry but made no attempt to find out what had been the problem. As they now do not know how we would like things to be improved we will certainly not be returning, and will tell our friends not to bother either.
