What a fantastic proper pub !
  10 / 10
Went into this pub for the first time on Saturday night. WOW ! What a brilliantly run boozer !
The owners are streets apart with their pub running skills and I defy anybody to say they have had a better welcome elsewhere!
Although it was packed, the landlord made sure he greeted everybody in the whole pub, and I understand that he does this every night !
I only wish pubs were like this everywhere. Many thanks to the wagon and horses team, you have much to be proud of.
We will be back for sure !

A rose aming the thorns
  8 / 10
i moved into the BRaintree area only a few weeks ago, and rate this pub as fantastic. well run with great staff and a great landlady and landlord. they remind me of the old school pub owners i grew up with.
fantastic range of beers all in tip top condition. Lovely decor and great crowd of friendly customers. I cant speak highly enough of this place and the people who run it. the only reason i have give it 8 instead of 10 is that they dont do evening food, but hey you cant have it all. great pub great people running it.

WELL DONE THE WAGON
  10 / 10
AGREE 100% WITH SCALINNI. IVE LIVED IN BRAINTREE FOR 27 YEARS AND THIS PUB IS THE NUTS. NO KIDS, NO MUGS AND NO IDIOTS.THATS COS THE PRESENT LANDLORD CAN SEE PAST THE EASY BUCK AND KEEPS THE LOW LIFE OUT. WHEN YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR WIFE OUT TO A NICE PUB FOR A NICE DRINK, THE WAGON IS NOT ONLY THE BEST CHOICE BUT THE ONLY CHOICE.
CARRY ON DOIN WHAT YOUR DOIN YOU GUYS AND KEEP THE NUMPTIES AND UNDERAGE DRINKERS WHERE THEY BELONG. I THOUGHT ALL PUBS WERE THE SAME TILL I WENT TO THE WAGON. 10 MARKS ISNT ENOUGH FOR YOU GUYS.THANKYOU.

Best Pub in Braintree By A Mile !
  10 / 10
I am a tad confused with the previous review to say the least. I have been drinking at The Wagon for the last two years and can assure you that the pub has been in the same expert hands for all of that time.
So I think we can safely assume that the previous report author has either the wrong pub, or is perhaps another jealous publican trying to bad mouth a far superior business operation!
I am a senior HR officer for Deloitte in the City, and it is my job to assess people skills and customer service potential on a daily basis.
Christine, Steve and their family run this pub with an old fashioned, expertly delivered style, which should be the envy of every service industry in the country!
Although I am not a real ale enthusiast, I can appreciate their passion and product knowledge totally. But above all, their genuine friendliness, welcome and charm is of a standard not often seen that much these days.
I look forward to popping in to see Steve and his team five nights a week on my way from the station, and over the two years have got to know them well.
Anyone like me who have had any dealings with this family will know only too well, that the previous writer is a "troll ringer" and not to be trusted.
Take my advice and pop into the Wagon when you are passing next. They run a strict code of principles down there, but facist ? I dont think so !
Instead of writing garbage, concentrate on your own business more, you never know, you may make a success at something in your toxic life.

Old Landlord has gone HORRAY
Most unpleasant Landlord I have ever come across in my entire life (and I am 53) has now gone thankfully.
I DO NOT have under-age teenagers, and when drinking responsibly with their parents a HALF A SHANDY fail to see why a dictatorial fascist should assume that my family are somehow responsible for drinking problems in this entire country. Maybe they should have looked at the losses they were making in their unsuccessful attempt to theorise over potential long standing customers motives for wanting to drink as a FAMILY in a local pub and ask themselves why they failed there...over to you . And may the next Landlord have a much keener sense of customer relations.
