Scotts Hotel

After a long day, I spent 20 minutes looking for this hotel at the other end of the village as the postcode on their website was wrong, after ringing through to the Hotel the phone was answered at the 2nd time of asking, I explained that the postcode appeared to be wrong and was lazily told what i already knew, that the postcode was indeed wrong and that i should try the alternative given, I explained that I wanted to eat and requested they save me a table.

Arriving at a scruffy motel type building at the rear of a Chinese takeaway and petrol station I was greeted by a large group of men smoking and swearing outside the main doors, having bustled my way through the crowd and strange smell of cigarette smoke and burnt garlic, I had the misfortune to come across probably the worst receptionist in the valleys if not the whole of the country! Stood at the counter I introduced myself to an uninterested looking girl sat at a computer 10-12ft away from the desk, I advised that i had a reservation and had requested a table, initially to be ignored as she typed away furiously on a computer keyboard, a moment or two later i was barked back at from the other end of the foyer 'I ll be with you in a minute' It was at this point I realized that the receptionist obviously had very important matters to attend to as she was deeply engrossed in Facebook!

By now i was starting to become a little agitated as she continued unperturbed with her online chat. However, agitation quickly turned to startle as 2 clowns walked past the window smashing on the glass to attract our attentions before pulling faces and gesturing the V signs to the highly amused receptionist inside, a sly 2 fingered gesture back was enough to satisfy our receptionist and her attentions were diverted back to organizing her social life.

Eventually lifting its head and directing a vacant glance my way the girl looked at the clock and yelled with some satisfaction, 'sorry mate we stop serving food at 9:00 but there's a chinky across the road if your hungry!'
I politely pointed out that it was 2 minutes past 9 and that I was only late checking in due to their error on their website!. This sadly fell on deaf ears, as the jobsworth girl told me there was nothing she could or should i say would do!
I t was at this point that we were joined by the 2 louts with the gestating fingers who i assumed would be shown the door or at least pointed in the direction of the rough and shoddy looking bar. Wrong! It was suddenly evident that these guys were also on the payroll of the hotel, I know this because the seated sloth was to bellow to the young lad in front of me 'Check this bloke in for me will yer!' ' Why don't you do it, yer lazy cow!' was his eloquent response. Whilst the 3 of them debated amongst themselves as to who turn it was to be arsed. I picked up my bags and made my way back through the gang of blokes and cloud of oriental tobacco smoke and back to the sanctity of my car.

The point of my review is this, I am not a snob or an awkward person to deal with. All I asked for was a basic level of customer service, common sense and manners.
Unfortunately Scotts failed to deliver on any of these levels.
Having found alternative eating arrangements and accommodation, and after speaking to a number of people locally it became evident that Scotts is pretty much regarded as the local doss house, cheap but dirty rooms with poor service and terrible food the norm.
There are a number of wonderful Bed and breakfasts throughout the valleys, 2 chain hotels near the motorway or you could try your hand at bartering for a sensibly priced room at Miskin Manor.

Would I stay again? No! I wouldn't even leave my dog there!

As a point of interest before posting this review, I did phone on numerous occasions to speak to the owner or manager, However on each occasion he was unavailable. Perhaps this is the underlying problem, who knows? and frankly who cares! Just don't stay there it appears this wasn't an off day, its a dump!
