Fagins Ale & Chop House

I have visited Fagin's many many times over the years and have usually enjoyed it. But last month 3 of us arrived, ordering 2 glasses of dry white wine and a pint. The pint was fine, but the wine was absolutely dreadful, it tasted horribly cheap and nasty. We took them back to the bar saying we could not drink it and would the barman change it please? He said quite politely try this and gave me a small drop of acceptable wine. I said OK we'd have that, only to be told that we would have to pay for it again, because it was a lot of wine to throw away. I replied that it was a lot of money (over £4 per glass) to throw away and didn't have it. The barman said everyone else drinks it, and when I pointed out that not one person in the pub was drinkng it, he just shrugged and turned away!! Even worse he whispered to his mate and laughed and giggled in my direction!! Needless to say the beer was quickly drunk up and we moved on for the rest of the evening. My husband used this pub very regularly, but not so much over the last year having experienced a similar situation with a bad pint of beer, he took it back to the bar explaining that the beer was off (he knows his beer) only to be told that they weren't prepared to change it, as other people had drunk it. He asked others in the pub and one guy had drunk it and agreed it tasted odd, but still they wouldn't change it. If this is company policy we wont be back!! This is no way to treat guests, and certainly not the way to encourage wine drinkers back. Landlord/lady get your act otgether and buy some decent wine and train your staff in polite service!!
