Really good addition to the village
  9 / 10
Cottenham has always missed a decent pub that does good food and the new Chequers fills that gap nicely. We went for an evening meal and found the restaurant full - great atmosphere, but not too noisy or packed.

The food was very good - we had the steak and the pheasant. Both were very tasty, although the steak was a little tough for the price. The homemade bread was excellent, with a combination of different types. Desserts were very good - traditional puddings with a quality twist. Finally, the local Cottenham-brewed beer was tasty.

An excellent evening and we will definitely return.

Lovely welcome in this newly refurbished gastro-pub
  9 / 10
So far I've dropped in at the newly refurbished (Autumn 2010) Chequers which is now a "Gastro-Pub". They have two sections, a "Bar/Grill" and a full "Restaurant" section. As a neighbour of the Chequers I was invited in for drinks on the opening night, and have since eaten there twice.

Always a warm welcome from the clearly charming Irish owners, the food is simple in style but excellent in quality. The "Irish Bread" was just terrific, and so far they've been pretty busy despite not actually advertising - all by word of mouth which is an excellent recommendation in itself.

Highly recommended.
