About
Apart from miniscule St. Davids, the smallest city in the land, we're only a short drive from the popular family and surfing beach at Whitesands Bay and there are some truly wonderful secluded beaches nearby that you can only reach on foot. Some of our guests don't even venture that far though. Trefin works its magic on them. It's the sort of place where you can just relax and be. A short stroll from us is a pub serving good food and a national award winning café/gallery and then there's the sea, always present, and some of the most glorious coastline this world has to offer. Come and experience it for yourself?
ABOUT OUR HOSTEL.....
We've been to a fair few places around the world ourselves and know that one of the pleasures of travel isn't necessarily the over-hyped famous sights. Coming across that special place to stay at the end of the day can be just as memorable or even more so. That's what we're endeavoring to create here. Trefin is an ex YHA youth hostel, closed by them at the end of the 2006 season and those who know it of old may be pleasantly surprised by the changes we've made so far. There used to be only a kitchen area with nowhere comfortable to sit and now there's a cosy lounge to relax in the evening as well as a refurbished and well equipped self catering kitchen and dining area. There's now free internet access and wi-fi, toys and games for the kids and an extensive library. We've gone for character rather than what we feel to be an impersonal 'Travel Tavern' look. There are arty and quirky touches to the place as well as those little basics that can often be lacking in budget accommodation - hooks and shelves and towel rails where you need them, blinds at the windows, a cup of tea when you arrive? All the bedrooms have been redecorated and recarpeted. We now have double beds in most rooms and there's breakfast using mostly organic and local and fair trade produce available also. We aim to be green too. We're powered by 100% renewable energy and plant a tree for every booking made. We've also always appreciated accommodation on our travels that's been good value and we're endeavoring to keep our rates at what we hope are the most reasonable in Pembrokeshire.
PRICES.....
Twins and cosy doubles are from £14 per person. (Please note that our doubles are slightly smaller than average at 4feet wide)
Family rooms sleeping 3 or 4 are £42 and we can offer that rare find - family rooms sleeping 5 - for £50 per night. Another rare find we think is that our family room rates don't go up in high season.
ROOM FACILITIES AND BREAKFAST....
All rooms have wash hand basins and reading lights and we provide all bedding.
Beds are made up ready for your arrival with roomy hostel sleeping sheets but if you would prefer conventional bedding this is available for £3 per bed regardless of how long you stay.
A light breakfast using as much organic and local and fair trade produce as we can find is available from £2 and we also offer a packed lunch - particularly useful if you're walking the coast path and you'd rather go to the pub (200 yards) than the shop (1 mile)!
ABOUT OUR VILLAGE....
If you need to get away from it all for a while head our way. Things move at a different pace in our part of the world and you'll soon find yourself adjusting to 'Pembrokeshire Time'. Electricity arrived in our village as late as 1958 and there are still aspects of the modern world that haven't reached us yet. The nearest big supermarket is 17 miles away but just up the road in the satellite village of Penparc, Don and Delsie's 'miniature Harrods' will supply all your needs. A short stroll from the hostel is The Ship Inn, our 'congenial village local' as described by The Good Beer Guide. There's always a guest ale on tap and Mike and Meriel specialise in serving up hearty portions of old favourites like Pembrokeshire pork and leek sausages and steak and ale pie. Near the village square (more of a rock really) is the Oriel-y-Felin gallery and tea-room. We're all very chuffed that Les Routiers have nominated it their café of the year. Here's what they say about it: "It's the quality of the ingredients that turn the ordinary light dishes of this spick-and-span and welcoming tea room-cum-galley into the extraordinary. Everything is freshly prepared from locally sourced ingredients, right down to the organic bread from an artisan baker." So, the best café in the whole nation is to be found here in Trefin. Fame at last for our little edge of the world village but then we always knew it was a special place! Come and discover it for yourself. (from
