Great place to ride
  10 / 10
This is a great place to ride. They have lovely friendly instructors who encourage you, but always respect your need to take things at your own pace if necessary. They have lovely, well schooled horses and they care about them. There are forward going horses for the more experienced rider and quiet horses for beginners. Something for everybody and more choice than the usual riding school, as they buy and sell horses. They work hard to offer lots of different events and activities and encourage clients to make suggestions about things they would like to see. A lovely, friendly place - go and meet them! I have ridden at many riding schools over the years and this is one of the best.

AWFUL!
  1 / 10
The horses/ponies don't look as though they are being looked after - the cobs are fat/overweight but all others skinny/underweight.

The horses get ridden hour after hour without a chance to have a drink or a breather. When they do get put in there stables, the bedding is filthy, the water buckets are dirty and either empty or little water in them. There is no hay in the stable for the horse to eat. They leave the horses tacked in the stable (just loosen there girths + wrap there reins) rather than untacking them.

They leave the horses out all night and when they bring them in one person will bring in like 5 or 6 ponies (wonder they don't kick each other). They then feed the horses with a cupful sized portion of sugarbeet on the floor of the horses stable (not in a bucket). Horses share tack(saddle/bridle) so it mustn't fit very well.

They put people on horses to advanced for them, and frequently put the clients on horses to big or small. and put the stable girls (who are about 17) on the tiny 11hh ponies. The lessons are priced SKY HIGH. The instructors aren't much good, and often laugh at people when they fall of, they don't teach you much and aren't really in control of the lesson. They are rude and stuck up. They also have teenagers teaching lessons who aren't qualified.

As a livery yard it is terrible as well as it is extortionately priced, you can hardly ever get in the arenas/facilities, the stables aren't much good, the hay/haylage provided can be terrible quality (damp, harsh, brittle, mouldy, black), they charge ridiculous prices for shavings (£7.50).

The grazing is shocking and cramped (20+ horses in a small field) whilst they frequently have one of their own horses in a field on there own.

At the other side of the yard there is 3 yearlings all cooped up inside ONE stable, up to their knees in filthy straw, with one bucket of water between them and they get fed whenever the owner can be bothered feeding them.

Overall it is a horrible yard, waste of time and money for riding centre and livery customer alike. The owner is an absolute arrogant pig, so rude and horrible. A member of his own staff quit last year after a huge dispute caused by him. Just dont waste your time and money and patience by going here. Stay clear.

I wouldn't go near here again even if someone paid me.

Excellent Riding Centre would recommend
  9 / 10
We don't own our own pony but my daughter, now 10, has been riding at Croft Riding Centre for around 3 years. Although she had previously ridden at other riding centres I think I can safely say that Croft has brought her on leaps and bounds, to the stage that she can confidently gallop around an open field and jump small Cross Country fences. Have ridden myself for a number of years and occasionally at Croft I have the upmost respect for the instructors and other staff at Croft. Croft has a good selection of Horse and Ponies as well as various instructors all of which have different attributes. Whilst my daughter has been riding at Croft she has been taught by a number of different instructors, who we have swapped between, depending on her needs. She originally started off with Group Lessons to get more saddle time, but has since moved onto Private Lessons for more one to one instruction. Since being at Croft she has progressed from a sedate easy going walk, trot to an exhilarating gallops and jumps. When she expressed an interest in equitation, the instructors helped her refine her skills, position and riding. In addition to that she has also done a number of Junior courses that have taught her about ponies and equitation and she has started to compete at the riding shows held at the centre and been good enough be placed above much older children. The staff have always been helpful and courteous, even on days when it's been pouring down with rain and I wished I was somewhere else, unlike my daughter who'd still be grinning. My only criticism of them would be that because it's a popular riding centre that on Saturdays it can get rather busy at times with group lessons. That said I still think it's a fantastic riding school and would recommend it to anyone whether they are just starting off or more experienced.

i didnt like it!
i have a number of problem with this place.
1. they do not keep the horse for very long but just work them till they are not able to work or get old.
2. i dont understand why the school is across the road from the stables it is just a safety risk.
3. they have too many lessons on at 1 time
4. they dnt even know the horses names and just call them " that one"
5. the staff are unfriendly
6. they are just there to make money and dont care about the horses
