flies in the countryside
As city folks of course we were very surprised to be told by the lady running Bowden Crest after politely complaining about the flies nest we found in the light fitting of our caravan, that ACTUALLY they have flies in the country side and it is obviously quite normal for country folk to enjoy a few dropping lazily in on your cosy Saturday night in front of a romantic film. Also it seems they feel no obligation to actually provide the hot water that we had paid for or to expect any manner of good customer service including a respectful or polite attitude towards there guests. By all means give these people your money if you enjoy paying for top class abuse. Not to mention the dull surrounding with no nice walks, except for the road that leads you away from this god awful place appropriately garnished with bits of rubbish from the last ten years, no escape to give you a break from the rude beady eyes you will attract as soon as you so much as mention that it might be nice to have some heat since it is winter. Yess delightful. The nice view over the Somerset fields does exist and in the distance you can spy a little hope of some other world where nice Somerset locals welcome you to pay them for an enjoyable experience. But who'd want that for weekend away? Have a look at the view though, and then wonder down and feed the muddy chickens some scraps of chicken from last nights dinner as it is all they're likely to get and is openly encouraged on the back of your bathroom door. Oh and if you get a chance to peruse the video collection if you are not too scared to leave the caravan, and the flies that somehow now seem rather friendly in comparison, then you might come across a copy of, of mice and men to heighten your mood in those darkest of times during your weekend or god forbid an actual holiday at Bowden Crest!
(This is a personal interpretation of an experience on valentines weekend at Bowden crest in winter 2009. The site is open all year round and you maybe luckily enough to catch them on a better day!)
