welcoming and Tasty!
  10 / 10
We recently went to a surprise 40th for a friend at The Tudor Rose Bistro, for 26 people, who didn't pre-order as we're awkward, and the food and service was excellent. All the food arrived in good time, it was absolutely delicious, and as usual the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend anyone to try this restaurant.

Good Food Great Value!
  10 / 10
On our first visit to Helmsley, we went to the Tudor Rose for a light lunch. We found a good selection of foods and we highly recommend Ham Salad and Chips for lunch and my Partner had Haddock. The waitress kindly informed me in our friendly conversation that they cook the ham themselves and hand carved the ham as required which is VERY! hard to find. A real yorkshire treat.

One to be Avoided
Although it calls itself a bistro, this cafe is more transport than trendy. The house wine is ghastly, I thought I was being fussy until I witnessed another diner screwing up her face after taking her first sip. The quality of the food left much to be desired, although it was cooked reasonably well, but the prices were on par with far superior venues such as The Feathers which is just along from The Tudor Rose. My partner's steak was of indeterminable type and appeared to have been battered to death with a meat tenderiser. A steak knife was only proffered after the waitress, who was polite but badly trained, overheard me asking him where his steak knife was. The waitress also leaned across me, without excusing herself, to serve the person beside me. To cap it all when we asked to pay we were told cash or cheque only, debit/credit cards were not accepted due to a 7% charge being levied by the card issuers. I know card issuers charge but 7% seem a gross exaggeration. None of us have used a cheque for at least 3 years so our cheque books were not to hand and there was no sign of an obvious notice declining cards. We gathered the cash together between us and left, vowing to never return. Quite what will happen when cheques are withdrawn I don't know but if it is to survive, The Tudor Rose has to pull up its socks and quickly.
