I cannot believe the comment by the couple who gave this lovley pub a 1* i would suggest she has like her husband not tasted any meat for a very long time . If she ever gets a mouthful again I am sure she will be back plate in hand , however i am doubtful wether her husband will ever treat her to a portion (of meat). Big Joe

my visit to royal oak
  10 / 10
Only one place i would enjoy a good homely 1st class sunday lunch more and that would be in my mothers kitchen many years ago The royal oak brings to mind the good food home made gravy ,friendly staff and customers warmth and satisfaction a real feel good atmosphere for all
When life around us is so hard to understand may these simple uncomplecated sunday lunches be enjoyed by all .come and see for yourself .i guess eating your meal and getting your moneyback helps with the housekeeping???

I cant believe the comments from a customer who obviously came from vulcan just passing mars(or were they just spaced out!). Situated on the a454 from w'ton to bridgnorth, as well as the surrounding green fields this has to be the best eating house in the whole of shropshire/west midlands.Such a qaint pub with cosy seating, the staff so friendly you feel totally at home.
well now to the food. Oh my god! a carvery simply to die for!. the succulent meat at its best, the vegetables, crisp, fresh, aldente perfectly cooked i could turn into a veggie and possible meet those critics who are already totally vegetables. they must only look at silver spoons and napkins at home and not eat anything,as their to frightened.
Believe me DO NOT PASS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO EAT AT THE FINEST ESTABLISHMENT FOR YEARS.

Did the person making the adverse comments dine at the same place as moi?If so I have 3 possible theories: 1)They like to be the centre of attention with lots of fuss being made of them by the proprietor - well one advantage of this fine eatery is that you DON'T get some floozy asking 'is everything alright?' just as you've taken a mouthful of fine beef; or 2)they are employed by a rival establishment who can't be ar*** to raise their cuisinary skills to the same standard & therefore do their best to bring down the competition by foul means; or 3)they'd had too many bevvies beforehand & found themslves in a parallel universe!!
The food you get here is a consistently high quality Sunday roast with all the trimmings + beautifully cooked vegetables of sufficient variety & quantity to satisfy any vegetarian choosing to eat in what is clearly a small carvery (therefore favouring meat DOH!!!!!).
And since there is more than enough to satisfy the most ravenous countryman I can only assume the lady is used to extremely large portions.
As for serving spoons-I would much rather use one that had been used to supply the last diner's plate with vegetables than one wiped by a stranger's napkin. But as Will says - If you want silver service go pay for it (and enjoy the extra tit-bits added to your platter by the pis*** off 'commie-chefs' behind the scenes!!).
