Get things into perspective!
  10 / 10
The Unicorn is an old fashioned pub next to the River Severn and the Severn Valley railway. They still practice old fashioned values and very much demonstrate a live-and-let-live attitude.

The comments posted seem to come from folk who like a set of rules, but the whole ethos of the pub and the camp site is about freedom! Sure, you will find, in all walks of life, wherever you go, some people who have disregard for others but I can certainly say, from experience, the management and the staff are very friendly and are always ready to help. It was refreshing for me to find that access to the pub has wheelchair ramps - they exclude no-one!

Yes, there are dog lovers there too and maybe the odd dog poop escapes the owners eye, yes, there are children who play and experience country life, yes there are parents who let their hair down and enjoy the ambiance and yes, the toilets could do with the assistance of those that use them - clean up after yourself!

All of the delicious food at the pub is cooked fresh to order and they use local produce. Nothing is too much trouble. In this society where complaining is becoming more and more widespread, why not practice the old fashioned values?

If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing.

Your experience does not represent my experience.

I shall look forward to another year at the Unicorn with nice friendly people, good food and the beauty of the place.

W.J.T.M

BTW... the history surrounding the personal lives of the management is of no consequence and has absolutely nothing at all to do with a review.

WORST SITE I'VE BEEN ON
It was like being on the Chatsworth Estate! I'm all for people enjoying theirselves but believe me, i wont be going here again ! Toilets and showers are dirty, didnt get a welcome from the pub, only 1 key on site from the pub for waste etc and wasnt advised of where they were, gangs of kids left to run riot while parents are getting drunk, screaming , shouting till late and then when kids went quite the adults started ! Drunken parents arguing, swearing at 3 in the morning,no respect for peoples privacy, loud music till all hours and the pub didnt care less !And that was just the first night..it got no better !Surely if this pub wants business then they should lay down some ground rules. The staff were not pleasant either but then if i had to deal with these poeple who have no regard for others then i couldnt put a smile on my face either, but at least i would have some manners AND want to know that customers were happy! There were some people with dogs too who allowed them to soil on the grass and didnt pick up the mess ! My 1 year old grandson trod in some right outside the caravan - just what you dont need ! I was so P'd off that 3 nights cost us £60 for a load of crap with nothing to do or anywhere to escape ! We were stuck with a lot of yobs and drunks(not all of them)and feel deprived of a short break ! A badly disorganised and lacking facilities site that looks good on the internet but dont let the fotos fool you !

Not what expected
  1 / 10
Now where shall I start ! Well, Faulty Towers is still alive ! Stayed here recently for a couple of days to do some fishing. This is in the middle of nowhere and is pretty and idyllic location. But unfortunately it goes down hill from there! The previous owner died recently, his 3rd wife, (Aged 30) contested the will and she left heading somewhere better with 1.3 million. The camp site and restaurant bar was left to 2 sons who have no idea about the business so have placed into position a manager and manageress who have not got the slightest idea what to do. The campsite and static caravan park was very busy but while I was there only 2 people ever ate in the restaurant and only a few very friendly locals still persisted at the bar.The food consists of the cheapest ingredients, badly cooked, and you have to wait until they are ready to cook it, before being served, as their own personal food requirements come first! Do not expect much food before 7pm.The rooms smell and the whole place can do with a good airing! The place needs a good tidy up and all the staff suffer from apathy and a lack of direction. Everything seems to be someone else's job! The rooms have thin walls and I had difficulty sleeping due to people listening to load TV's and really bad snoring! One of my pillows had a blood stain on it and the cleaner refused to do anything about it but MUST have noticed it. I complained! If you do complain it is just like "John Cleese" as the manager takes it personally and interrogates you the morning after and brain washes you into thinking it is all your fault and not theirs. I was told "Don't come back" after sending back a steak and chips that was awful, for which I claimed a refund for in the morning, much to the managers displeasure, although he argued with me for 10 minutes in the morning saying "why did you eat a little of the steak, you have to pay for it" The rest of the staff and locals that drink there are very warm and friendly however, and come the time that it becomes "Under new management" I will return as the fishing and facilities are excellent, and in the right hands could be the best establishment in the country, from a fishing and camping point of view. Until then I would recommend a newly refurbished place just up the road, where is where I will head next time !
