Cracking pub, great 'homemade' food, real ales and guest ale. Prices very fair. Top pub!!

absolutely fantastic
  10 / 10
Me and my husband and our 2 boys stayed here overnight on sat 17/07/10-we arrived and the room was immaculate and the owners were very welcoming,so we decided to eat there that night-and my husband is a fussy eater-he had a meal that he thouroughly enjoyed and so did me and my boys-it was also very reasonably priced-breakfast was great next morning too and staff were really friendly place is really clean-i wont hesitate in booking again - well done

DONT BELIEVE THE FIRST REVIEW, ITS A DISGRUNTLED LOCAL RIVAL!!
Well, i certainly know what i am talking about when i say that the old pec is without doubt the finest traditional pub in the area, great staff, fantastic home cooking, delicious real ales all in a olde worlde setting, i rather think that the derogatory review is from the landlord of the crown just up the road which is very naughty, but hey , the crown could NEVER compete with the old P.

Fantastic Real Pub
  9 / 10
The previous comment is totally inappropriate as any of the regulars both local and distant know. This pub is well attended by locals and people afar. Built on a reputation of homemade (not home-cooked)food and a relaxing unoffensive atmosphere with 4 real ales. This is one of the dwindling real pubs left with authentic real charm with no ties to 'pub chains'. Heres to keeping it real.........

Not great
  2 / 10
Only been in the Old Peculiar twice first time in January this year and again in May both times we felt as if we had walked in carrying a poster saying Swine Flu keep away. There was no welcome from the staff, the regulars turned away and did not reply to our â??good eveningâ?. We when in May to try it again just as unfriendly and the food took for ages was not that special when it came. Will be trying the Crown next time we pass as its just been reopened after a refurbishment.
