EXCELLENT MEAL AND FABULOUS SERVICE
  10 / 10
We dined at the Blackhorse inn Cronton for a family occasion . The food was excellent they had an excellent chef's choice board and menu , The quality of the food was excellent and staff very friendly. It was my mother's birthday and she really enjoyed her evening . I WOULD recommend this pub as its good value for money with real home cooked food. Good evening and have already booked for christmas here. cant wait to return and bring my work collegues.

BLACK HORSE, WIDNES
  2 / 10

4 of us dined at the Black Horse mid week. They have a regular menu, board specials, a three course special for £12.95 which is a combination of specials and menu, and a seperate menu of 2 courses for £9.99. All sounds good so far? Well that soon changed. From the £9.99 menu one of the diners ordered the 7oz rump steak, "cooked to your liking", as described on the menu. We were told that the restaurant no longer sells rump and that this is replaced with braising steak, even though they advertise that they sell it.I asked if it could be replaced with another type of steak for the same price, seeing as they were advertising it in such a way and was point blank told "no". I then said that we would possible like to take advantage of the 3 courses for 12.95 and asked if we could decide if we wanted a dessert after we had eaten the starters and mains and again, was told "no - you have to decide now so that we can ring it through the till". I suggested to the waitress that this wasn't very flexible to the customer and was told "well, that's how it works here". We were all very dissappointed with the lack of flexibility and decent customer service, although I will say that the young waiter serving the meals was professional and polite. The food was average and I can see why the place was empty. I will not be dining there again.

Poor service, poor food.
  3 / 10
Visited this place for the secong time in a year. The first time we went, we arrived at 1.30pm, asked for food, and was told that they "weren't serving food at the moment because the Chef has gone home". So we thought, 8 months have gone by now, so let's give it another chance. We arrived Saturday afternoon around 1.45pm. It was very quiet in the pub , with only around 3-4 tables taken by people having food. So I was very surprised we had to wait 30 minutes just for 2 Paninis with chips. Now, I said we ordered Paninis, which we did(BBQ Chicken and Cheese and the other Mature Cheddar and Red Onion), what we got was 2 Baguettes(one with Some chicken, sliced peppers, onions and mushrooms and lots of BBQ Sauce and Cheese and the other Mild Cheese and White Onion), so what we got wasn't what was described on the Menu. After we finished we left the pub only to see the 2 Chefs outside the entrance having a smoke in full view. Nice!

Good Family Pub
  5 / 10
As a regular visitor to the Black Horse Inn I've had various experiences. The food is varied and generally good quality. They also have a kids menu. However, the biggest downside is the wait for meals--usually 30-45 mins on average. The customer service could also be improved. We've been served by some very good, friendly waitresses and some extremely surly, unhelpful ones!

In general, the Black Horse is a good family pub but it has great competition from The Unicorn down the road. Much quicker, friendlier service at The Unicorn it has to be said.
