Salt overdose, Cold food, Poor service
  1 / 10
Having been using this restaurant for nearly 25 years, and having had on average consistently good food and service I am now forced to warn others about the terrible food and the lack of caring service.

The last three times I have been there the food I have been served has been so salty that I can still taste the salt. I have even had to return the food as it was too salty to eat. These were not the same dishes, once was a chicken chat, another was a spinach bahji.

This restaurant used to have different food depending on what time you went in, early doors it was mild whereas later on it would be massively spiced and hot. Interestingly the pepper pots do not contain pepper but have hot chilli powder!!

Sadly the meal I had tonight was the last I will ever have in the Bombay - a poor sign was the poppudums that were soft and chewy. Then we ordered the meal, we thought no starters as we were in there at about 9pm so we would go straight to the main course. All ordered, the second beer, we waited. And waited. An hour or so later, with other tables being served in front of us (only 4 people) no food had arrived. And there was no staff around to ask anything of.

Eventually the food arrived, but straight away it was obvious that some of it was cold. When we pointed this out, they reluctantly took one dish back to the kitchen. Then we found that several other dishes were also cold, and these were also taken back to the kitchen but only after some had been put on our plates.

When these arrived back, and were tasted, they had been spiced up with pepper, which we were pretty annoyed with! Luckily we had eaten enough by then.

The bill included service, which we had not had, but it would have spoilt the meal to argue about having taken off the bill. There were no concessions to the poor food, no free drinks offered and all in all they have lost our custom.

My advice, go to the Calcutta Club at Polehill and have the most fantastic food and service you could wish for.
