Anytime Eating
  8 / 10
My wife and I have been visiting the Spices of Bengal for 15yrs, and of course if you expect fine dining you will be a little disappointed, But to eat good food at a good price, then of the many we have tried around Maidstone /Ashford/Gravesend, we find Charing the Best. I have eaten Indian food in India and it's nothing like the Indian food we get here in the UK. It's a little foolish to expect it to be. Indian food here is adapted to the European palate, unless you go to certain restaurants in Birmingham, Leicester, or the West End of London. We would recommend the food to anyone.

The Banquet Nights

This restaurant is indeed great for it's price. A really tight shift thanks to the management and crew! Their king prawn dishes are the best!

The Banquet Night £10 WOW!!!
  9 / 10
I went to the Spice of Bengal Tuesdayâ??s Banquet Night; you choose any one starter, main course, veg side and any rice or any nan. Coffee if you got room all for £9.95 per person if you get any king prawn dishes itâ??s a pound extra per dish. It is a fantastic deal the food is great and restaurant is packed for the obvious reason. The couple times Iâ??ve gone and not gone a table so I all ways book now a week in an advance!! I love this place. I do some time have to wait, but it is worth the wait, Staff are great and are welcoming and wouldnâ??t go anywhere else on a Tuesday!!!

All good
I would like to say the food was nice, the people friendly, and lovely location.... for people who want a better Indian, then INDIA is the place for you. This is a perfectly good Indian, however if some people want a bit more (and could learn how to spell if they want to write a comment.....- 'two' not 'too' and 'were' not 'was'..... I hear Bengal is good.

Go to Indian if it's not good enough for you!

Spice? what spice??
  3 / 10
Friendly welcome and very kind, helpful service but we had to wait a very long time for our meal to arrive after our 1 puppodum each.
Out of the 5 dishes we chose between us, only really one or too was finished, and thats unusual for pour hungry family! The biriani was good. The spice of bengal 'speciality' was frankly, awful - that was mine.. the meat was not even close to tender chunks of lamb that i had looked forward to, and the 'creamy sauce' was really not tasty at all. For an unexperienced curry eater that doesnt like hot food, it might have been ok, but, really no fine spices graced my palate. Overly expensive for the quality - we paid over 90£ for 4 adults and 2 kids, without any side dishes! I mustadmit, I thouroughly enjoyed the Kingfisher beer, but that's about it. We won't be going back and wouldn't reccommend it.
