Expensive and staff that need lessons in good service
  1 / 10
Read the reviews and thought I would give it a try. Asked to sit upstairs and they said they were full. This was not the case and they just didn't want to set up a new table for us. The food selection was ok, but we were hassled all the time. Within 2 mins of being there - "Are you ready to order?" I counted 3 times in 10 minutes. In the end I asked to be left alone so we could at least look at the menu properly. Drinks expensive - £2.50 for a small glass of coke and £3.50 for a glass of house red - disgusting. I would certainly not go back again,

I really dont know hoe someone can think up all these lies!!!!!!!
I have been goin to this place for quite a while, my son has even made his own pizza in the "WOOD BURNING OVEN"(frozen Pizza Ha). I have also sat on the table overlooking the kitchen and can assure you the garlic breads arent microwaved!!

If people have no concept of a good meal i suggest they stick to frozen pizzas.

Hidden Gem!!

My family and I have been dining at Il Palio on average about twice a month for the last ten years. My father and his friends eat there every weekend and often stay there for entire afternoons at a time. The wine list is most satisfactory and really does entertain some pretty impressive wines. When I was recently there my father and I enjoyed a fantastic bottle of Brunello. It is a family run restaurant and after going there for such a long time we have come to know them and they truly are a lovely bunch, always friendly and attentive. For those who can appreciate what a good Italian pizza should taste like, Il Palio will be heaven for you! They have an authentic wood burning oven which really adds to the authenticity and taste of the pizzas. Unfortunately, some people have become so accustomed to what can only be described as "American" pizzas - the thick, doughy and greasy concoctions served up in places such as Pizza Hut - that they are unable to appreciate a good pizza when they order one. If this is the kind of pizza that you want rather than a crisp, thin based pizza topped with fresh ingredients, then i suggest you take the advice of the first reviewer of this restaurant; DO go and buy a frozen pizza or go to Pizza Hut as you won't appreciate the masterpieces served up at this wonderful restaurant. And as for being chased out of the restaurant, I know Vito, and he is a lovely man and delightful host who is always the life and soul of the restaurant - all I will say is that whenever I eat there he is charm personified.

Fantastic food and brilliant staff!!!

Me and my boyfriend went here on a whim one Friday night. We arrived at eight O'clock and were disappointed as it was heaving and we thought we would be unable to get a table. An extremely friendly waiter went out of his way to get us a table ready and we sat down almost immediately. Our drinks order was taken a few minutes after we first sat down and we ordered a bottle of the Nero D'avola, which was the nicest red I'd had in ages! I ordered the grilled sardines to start and my boyfriend had the tonno fagioli - both were excellent, but nothing compared to the main course! I would highly recommend the monk fish, which came with lovely seasonal vegetables. My boyfriend ordered the Pulcinella fillet steak which was cooked to perfection. The service was brilliant, we didn't have to wait for long considering how busy they were and our waiter was very attentive. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to sample any of their deserts as I was too full, but the couple on the table next to ours were having something that looked amazing, and it was prepared right in front of them at the table by a waitress which was brilliant!! I would highly recommend this place, but next time we go I'm going to make sure I book!

My boyfriend and i had been looking forward to coming to this restaurant but we couldn't of been more disappointed, embarrassed and humiliated.

We ordered the Deep fried Mozzarella (£7.50 - JOKE FOR WHAT YOU GET) and Garlic bread for starters. The Mozzarella was stone cold, tasteless and was a frozen food product, not fresh at all. The garlic bread had been microwaved so much that it was far too hot to pick up - again not pleasant.

For the mains we simply ordered a pizza each. When the pizzas arrived mine was not what i ordered so I sent it back and then waited for the second one to arrive. When it came out it wasn't cooked - the mushrooms on it were completely raw and was still frozen in the middle. My boyfriend then complained (very rare) and the waiter / chef!!?? told us to get out of his restaurant NOW!!!! We had complained in a kind manner and he went totally mad, threw his arms in the air and was really quite embarrassing!

I would never in a million years go back to this place and would strongly advise anyone to avoid it - it is just overpriced frozen foods warmed up with a very scary service!

Get a frozen pizza from the supermarket - much nicer and would be cooked!!
