No warm welcome here
  4 / 10
Having turned out on a very cold and snowy night to celebrate my 3 sons birthday's I thought we might be met by a cheery bar person, passing comments such as" good of you to come out in the snow " or even a smile would have done a little to make us feel welcome. We were a party of 8 and as there appeared to be only 2 others in the restaurant at the time he wasn't too busy.
Having placed our order we were brought a small taster dish of butternut squash soup served in tiny cups (very tasty) I asked if we could have a small spoon, the grumpy barman brought us spoons but could'n help saying we were supposed to drink it from the cup! As I was out with my three 'twenty something' sons I am well used to sarcastic remarks I don't need him to join in. We enjoyed the food well cooked and presented. It was the service that let it down.
On a further note about the weather, nothing had been done to clear snow from the entrance,a very steep drive into the car park, or the path into the pub, may be the staff were looking for a quiet night!
Not to worry we won't bother you again.

Awful, try another!!
  1 / 10
Visited 07/01/2012 Saturday evening with my Partner and 2 Friends. We live reasonably local so thought we'd give it a try.

The interior itself is old, not rustic old, run down old, and needs complete refurbishment, the car park is full of large pot holes and is muddy.

My first large Peroni (£4.20) was lifeless, the second was better, but still not full of life and as cold as Peroni should be.

I had Cod & Chips, it was sloppy, greasy and the mushy peas were from a tin by the look of them. The cod wasn't fresh because it had a fishy (fresh cod should have NO odour) odour and it obviously hadn't been put in hot enough oil. VILE

My Partner had 'pan fired chicken', this was a fried chicken breast with bacon and some mashed potato, served with some lifeless over cooked veg.

Our two Friends had Lasangne with chips, both looked alright - ish, supermarket cafe style.

3 of us had chocolate fudge cake for dessert, this was OK.

The Waitress was reasonably Friendly but not knowledgable. Sauces were brought to the table in grubby 'cash and carry style' sachets - a complete no-no at this level in my opinion.

The glasses of coke were lifeless (typical draught).

When I went to the Gents, there was a young lad running in and out of the kitchen which really let things down some more.

The gents was grubby with and the soap dispenser wasn't working and the hand basin.

The bill for the food and a couple of soft drinks (beers paid for seperately) came to a whopping £78! All four of us were shocked.. This was far too much for the quality of food we received.

I paid with £80 in cash, I was detirmined not to leave a tip so I took the cash personally to the bar, the Waitress gave me my change in front of the (presumed) Landlord and Landlady, neither of which offered a simple 'thank you' or 'goodbye' to the four of us.

The pub was quiet - nobody else eating, just several (presumed locals) at the bar and I can see why! For the record as we were eating, a couple sat down, looked at the menu, glanced round at the surroundings and walked back out.

On reflection I should have raised a complaint before paying the bill. Will never ever be going back again, I hate leaving negative reviews but I have been as truthful as possible, what we got was overpriced junk!

I live about 4 miles from the Crown and I can assure you there are MUCH MUCH better eating pubs in this area at the same price point so go elsewhere!!

I guess Keith Floyd was right - never trust an empty resturant!!

14.12.2011 The Crown back to it's best !

A excellent three course meal - well presented, well cooked, just right when it came to the table and plenty of it. The new management team seem to have turned things around - don't be put off paying them a visit by previous comments that are now irrelvant.
Specials board was a good mix and value for money - great customer service by both the waitress and manager.

We would definitely recommend it and will be going again.

avoid!
  1 / 10
Absolutely terrible food and service. I politely complained about one part of the food and I was met with an argument from a so called customer service person (waitress), who demanded that it was fresh from the bag and that she would eat it.

1) Whatever you think of my complaint, it is MY complaint, and should not be argued with.

2) The food was disgusting and to serve that particular bit up is dreadful. What happened to quality control?

3) To then argue that it was fresh is unbelievable.

AVOID!

And rather expensive for really below standard pub grub and drink
