Poor take out customer service.
  1 / 10
I used the take away service. We're pretty local, about 5-ten mins by car.
After a 2 hour wait our food arrived. We knew there would be a wait because
they informed us of this but they said an hour max.
We called them up to chase up our dishes, but after an
hour they had not been cooked. The second time they said
the driver had left but clearly he hadnt cuz it took
him half an hour to get here supposedly.

Food arrived, we demanded compensation but apparently
a couple of FREE cans of soda and a 330ml bottle of Tiger was enough.
We had to fight over the phone for a reasonable outcome.

In the end the food was ...average. A mix of well-cooked mains and
substandard mains, under cooked fries and chewy re-fried fries.

was it worth the hassle and the wait?...no.

Our meal was £47 pounds, we wanted 7 pounds off the price. They didn't deem this acceptable, hilarious! After a fight on the phone we got what we wanted but the manager was very petty and argued over a few pounds (forget the fact that a discount wasn't even offered).

I wished they'd just been honest an said they couldn't manage.
Then at least we could have ordered a pizza.

Terrible meal on 6th May 2009
  1 / 10
Note: as of 06/05/2009, when I went, this restaurant was renamed as "Sichuan's Finest Restaurant" (or something along those lines). I assume it's under new management.

As a Chinese individual, I went in and ordered Udon noodles with seafood expecting a normal traditional oriental meal for a fast paced lifestyle.

What I got was a traditional meal but with no regard to hygiene or customer service. The meal was satisfactory but the seafood extras which included oysters were a disgrace. Instead of only putting in the oyster meat as you would expect from any other normal Chinese restaurant. This restaurant decided to put in the entire oyster shell, with oyster meat still stuck to the shell.

The problem was either:

a) The oyster shell was still unopened - So I had to ask for a knife, take out the entire oyster shell, which was dripping with hot soup and literally put it onto the table to chisel and cut open myself whilst the staff looked on at me as if in disgust.

b) The few oyster shells which were half opened, were uncleaned and still had seaweed and sea fungus on the outer side which was literally dropping off into my soup as I was taking out the meat. I'm not an expert but this is NOT right!

After eating half the bowl, I had enough and thought getting ripped off for £6.50 wasn't too bad of a price to pay if I wasn't ever going back (which on the menu stated it included VAT and "voluntary service charge" wasn't included). But when I asked for the bill, they put on a 10% compulsory charge on top. When I enquired the staff, they acted like they did not understand what I was pointing out in English or Chinese..

The whole experience was an absolute disgrace to Chinese food and customer service. If I had the time I would seriously consider reporting this place to Food hygiene and the Advertsing Standards Authority. If you look inside, no other person really uses it apart from Chinese students from the local college.

Take my advice, go somewhere else.

Most authentic chinese around.
  9 / 10
If you're looking for a uniquely authentic chinese meal, this is THE place. Always visited by chinese people missing the flavours from home, sunny restaurant serves great-tasting food pretty much all day.

First impressions really don't count with this place...once we took the plunge and entered sunny restaurant, the overwhelming smell of authentic chinese food hit us. It's miles ahead of the skanky fast food places nearby. When we sat down, we found ourselves completely surrounded by very loud excited chinese students, all tucking into szechuan hot pots. Not wanting to show ourselves up, we resisted ordering the familiar gloopy, primary-coloured dishes and turned to the chef's specials section instead. There's an amazing selection of interesting dishes such as Deep-fried Duck stuffed with Cansinese Taro or Braised Beef Brisket with Chinese Raddish and Carrot. We went for Steamed Spare-ribs with Taro and on recommendation, their Szechuan Spicy Beef In Soup. We ordered rice for one on the side. It was all truly excellent, the beef soup being my favourite. If you're umming and erring whether or not to go here, DO. You really won't be disappointed. It's a unique opportunity to eat chinese without all the E numbers. I haven't mentioned the price. It's good. Really good. The portions are massive so I wouldn't go overboard - the three dishes between us were more than enough - we even took some home in a doggy bag. In all, we spent just over £20, both of us having soft drinks... this isn't a drinky restaurant though we saw others drinking imported chinese beers etc., I don't think fancy wines are good combined with the strong flavours of chinese food.

*One thing to note: As usual, the chilli on the menu means a dish is hot. They really do mean it so unless you enjoy very hot food, I'd avoid these dishes or perhaps order to share one hot dish between a group. The Szechuan spicy beef in soup was VERY hot but if you, like me, enjoy that then go ahead - IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.
