Hostel or hotel?
  1 / 10
The hotel was very cheap at £30 for a double room for the night (this was the total price) and it was also clean and tidy.

However, upon arriving we were immediately met by scaffolding on the front - no problem - except the space next to the hotel used to house another building which had been conjoined and had been demolished. The wall which had contained the inside of the demolished building was still exposed to the elements and the owners of the hotel hadn't even thought to start sorting out the wall to make it into an external, rather than an internal, wall.

The room was on the first floor of the building at the back. This meant that the view out of the window - which was broken, so didn't shut properly - was a brick wall. The room was decorated in clashing shades of red/pink/orange and beige and was so small that instead of a double bed, as advertised, it contained a queen sized bed, that was still too big for the room. There were tea and coffee making facilities but I didn't use them as they looked like they'd been there forever and the kettle was skinking.

The room itself, as well as being small, was also damp enough for the wall paper to be peeling and so cold - probably because, it was against the previously mentioned external wall. There were cracks all over the ceiling, it felt like half the floor was missing it was so old and creaky and I swear the floor was sloped slightly towards the inside wall.

The bathroom was okay. Shower was weak and although the bathroom was clean it desparately needed a few toiletries, such as soap. The shower head was also gunked up with limescale - which probably explains why it didn't work so well. The only door on this so-called En Suite was a corsettina door that gave little privacy as it was too big for the door frame and didn't shut properly.

All in all, it was a bit of a dive and in my opinion doesn't even deserve one star. But in this case it definately is a case of you get what you pay for.
