Average Beer - forget the grub!
  1 / 10
Been a couple of times now, second visit was for the benefit of the doubt, and I should have learned the first time.

Hydes is usually a good pint, but something has gone wrong here as it wasn't up to form at all. We ordered a bar meal and it took so long to arrive we very nearly quit. When it did arrive, we came to the conclusion that the microwave must have been on the wrong setting, hence the delay.

Dick Turpin wore a mask when he robbed people, the staff at this pub rob you with a surly indifference.

Avoid, avoid, avoid.

What can I say, a nice pub, great location and fantastic views; shame about the food. I have had better meals in a Little Chef. Worst of all is the veg that accompanies the meals, just reheated microwave stuff. Now, surely it isn't rocket science to peel and cut carrots or broccoli?

This pub is charging Three Fishes (Nigel Haworth of Northcote Manor fame) prices and more, but not providing Three Fishes food quality, ambience or service. The staff seem to be untrained & disinterested teenagers wishing they were elsewhere, and the beer is variable at best, which is a shame as Hydes is generally a good pint. The last time I went in here was about 8 years ago, and it was a pleasurable "country boozer", but since it has upscaled its food provision the character has changed completely. I'll be giving it a miss in future. Shame really, it was a great pub once.
