WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WAY TO CELEBRATE THREE YEARS OF HARD WORK
  4 / 10
i WOPULD LIKE TO SAY A big thank you to the RESTAURANT OWNERs and STAFF for a wonderful Christmas Party. I have no doubt that members of the Adult Nursing Graduating Class of Cohort 03/08, who actually came to the Christmas Party, did have great fun during the night. The food was good, the staff were friendly and the management was very accommodating. Considering what we got for the amount of manoey we paid per person, I think that ithe restaurant is indeed a good value for money. Good food, karoake, and disco, nothwithstanding the free DJ certainly can cost more in other places. What a beautiful and memorable way to end three long years of hard work in Universaity. On behalf of my classmates I would like to say THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH FOR MAKING OUR NIGHT TRULLY BEAUTIFUL AND ENJOYABLE. I certainly will not hesitate to book more parties for my family or for any other group I will work with.

Avoid at any COST, what a total waste of money and time!!!
  2 / 10
We have just been to The Shanghai as a family to celebrate Mother's Day. Early signs suggested that this was a big mistake as the place was empty apart from one other family! The next sign came when we received our drink orders. As our soft drinks arrived there was no sign of activity in the glasses, totally avoid of any fizz whatsoever!! I ordered a Coke, and the taste was something I would not like to repeat in a hurry! It tasted like the cheapest artificially sweetened brown water that wouldn't be out of place sold in a '99p Shop', in a 5ltr. bottle, labeled as something like "Joka Cola"! I can't drink diet anything so this was the pits! It certainly set the tone for what was to come.

We all looked at each other thinking: "Is it too late to go to Harvester?" Even though we booked at table for 7pm, we were told that we would have a further 20 minute wait until the buffet was ready. But we had to sympathise with the other family, as they had been sat there waiting since 6:30pm!

So onto the food. We have visited another local buffet called Cosmo who have a large selection but we fancied a change. There was not a huge amount to choose from, but it did look appetising all the same. So we selected our dishes and returned to our table. Hmmm....,the noodles were very dry and lacked flavour, the rice had very little flavour, in fact almost everything I put on my plate had nothing remotely tasting like authentic Oriental cuisine! You would be better off getting ASDA Smart Price Chinese ready meals, as these would stimulate your taste buds better than this lack lustre meal, it was absolutely dire! We all sat around struggling to fork down something, in a feeble attempt to find something we could stomach. I usually find it disrespectful to leave too much in my plate, so would normally attempt to eat as much as I can to make it look respectable, but this was exceptional circumstances, especially as I couldn't just gulp and wash it down due to my drink being off limits.

There were definitely no return visits to refill dinner plates. So we looked at the dessert options! Well......there was a choice of tinned peach slices, tinned pineapple chunks, tinned fruit salad (already primed in what looked like evaporated milk), apple fritters, banana fritters and fresh orange quarters! I must say that the fresh orange was nice (pretty much the highlight of the taste experience that is: The Shanghai)! We were totally perplexed by what was before us. At one point I almost thought I was dreaming the whole episode up (seriously)! Our after dinner coffee chat (minus the coffee) was of us trying to make light of the situation, looking at the funny side to avoid crying. The kids were not short of amusing anecdotes with the evening becoming something of an episode of 'Family Guy'!

But worst was to come! I went up to the bar to ask for the bill. We had already been speculating what the final cost would be for 3 adult and 1 child buffet plus 4 flat drinks. I got a total shock when the bill came to £51.00! I asked why this was the case considering that it stated that adult buffets on a Sunday evening were £9.99 each and a child was £3.99! The guy behind the bar then produced a "Special" Mother's Day flyer with a "Special" revised price hike of £13 per head for adults and £4 for children under 10yrs! It also stated on the flyer to book early! Not sure if those flyers were ever in circulation, and there was no sign of this price change either online or anywhere on the outside of the restaurant!!! So we were well and truly suckered in. God only knows why we didn't just walk on by when we saw only one other family present when we got there!

Believe it or not, I have never been bothered enough to submit a review on anything as I've just seen this as something that somebody with too much time on their hands does (sorry)! But if I can help someone else avoid this place to give someone else more deserving your hard earned cash, then here it is. Sorry if the above seems a little strong (at least this has some flavour) but I've never experienced such poor food. I know we all have different taste palettes (one man's meat is another man's poison and all that) but an empty restaurant, the fact that we all hated it, and the hidden price hike didn't exactly point towards Michelin Stars. We are still having a laugh about it (fortunately), but I'm serious in steering you away. Try at your own peril...!
