Worst cafe in sussex
  1 / 10
Sad to say I have visited this cafe a few times as its the only cafe in the area each time hoping it would have got better then the last time but no, cheap frozen sausages, cheap nasty bread usually burnt and if your lucky you'll get a hair thrown in. Usually full of undesirable's and a door that always gets left open just so you can freeze and enjoy secondhand cigarette smoke from outside, just to add its situated in the 70's concrete hell that is Broadfield Barton.

Please excuse the negativity

A glimpse of Madeira from West Sussex
  8 / 10
Hidden in Broadfield Barton shopping centre, just opposite Morrison's supermarket, you will find a little cafe that will instantly take you to sunny Madeira, whilst serving excellent food in the meanwhile.
Cafe Santa Maria serves traditional English food, in particular excellent all-day breakfasts, along with Portuguese and Madeiran food.
The food is invariably fresh, well cooked and nicely presented.
It us worth trying some of their specialties, such as the Picadinho, tender strips of beef, nicely sauteed, served with tomatoes, black olives and mushrooms, on a bed of chips.
Very generous portions give you an excellent value for money.
An added bonus is a selection of cakes from Portugal and Madeira.
The atmosphere is always cheerful: the many pictures of Madeira, and a giant screen TV showing TV programs from Madeira brighten up dull rainy days.
Do not be put off by the location, bang in the middle of Broadfield concrete nightmare: as soon as you enter the cafe and taste the food, you will see it was all worth it.
Highly recommended.
