Improving under new management
  5 / 10
The Barley Mow is under new management and is much improved. It still has a way to go before it gets back to the superb village pub it once was - one that attracted folk from far and wide - but the new folk have made a good start. Now they need to be more aware of what people expect these days. I ordered a spritzer: it was served like lemonade - no style - and the menu is still too "transport cafe": no salads, no ploughmans, no food that would entice anyone to come out of their own kitchens to eat in the pub. (And that when the pub is in the midst of some of Hampshire best farms offering outstanding local produce!) A fellow with hands, face and fingers submerged in the task of eating a huge portion of spicy ribs quite put me off ordering anything! Curry and rice; ham, egg & chips; thickly battered fried fish and chips? All no thanks! I can get a superb cheese soufflé and salad, or local meat and veg, in the award-winning pub in next village. The other thing they need to do is GET RID of the TV and the flashing games machine from the Lounge Bar. Or, better still, turn one of the bars into a decent pub eatery and put the machines, TV and games in the other one.

Atrocious
This is very much a sad reminder of how people can let such a lovely building and location rot. Not an ounce of effort is put in to this pub. The food is awful and the service is weak. It seems as if the land-lord refrains from serving customers as he sits hunch-back over his knees and cracks dirty jokes. The land-lady, who looks tired and works very hard is within the class of a "one man-band". Although none of the hard work pays off. This pub is mainly catered for the local drunks. I can tell you that there are a huge percentage of villagers who would never step foot upon the grounds of 'The Barley Mow'. If you would like to re-live certain episodes from Coronation Street (or even Eastenders) and you are a person who loves pathetic politics... Then this is definetly the pub for you!!...
