About
The Basingstoke Irish Society is a members' club promoting Irish culture for the benefit of the residents of Basingstoke and the surrounding area. Amongst the groups affiliated to it are traditional and set dancing groups, pool and football teams and a wholly owned trading subsidiary that runs the licensed bar premises upstairs at the Irish Centre in Council Road, Basingstoke. This Centre has a large downstairs hall, used for orchestra and tap-dancing practices and kick boxing tuition. The affiliated dancing groups use the upastairs "long room" which also acts as the practice room for a number of bands and other musicians. We also have a smaller TV lounge which is used by other groups. The licensed lounge is our main venue for family nights, music and dance evenings and most of the Society's own events. It is also the preferred venue for wedding and christening parties and funeral wakes.
All the venues mentioned are available for hire by the public as well as members and we encourage use by community groups.
