Worst Chinese ever!
Thought I would give this place the benefit of the doubt as heard good reviews about this place until I read the reviews on this page. Went last night to celebrate a friends birthday. The young gentleman who served us was rude and the food was okay but nothing special to write home about. All day I have been feeling sick from the food and keep smelling the oil in the food in which it was cooked in. Told the boy we were celebrating a birthday he said "so". He kept looking at me and giving me the evil eyes. What a strange place. It was cold in there and hardly anyone in this big place. Will never eat there. We spent over £80 pounds just for 2 people - What a rip off for ok food and poor service. Wish I went to Rutland Chinese in Oakham.

Not what it used to be

How sad to report that our experience at Mr Pangs on October 12, 2008, was very similiar to the previous reviewer. I was choking on some fried seaweed and the waiter refused point blank to give me a glass of water and said I had to buy bottled water from the bar. I was utterly shocked to think that the owners (who we have known for 18 years)would put profits before a medical emergency. As they were not on duty that day I wrote them a letter and was again shocked when I did not even get the courtesy of a reply. We could only assume that the restaurant had changed hands. Apparently this is not the case. Loyalty obviously means nothing. We would never set foot in Pangs again and would urge anyone else considering such an outing to think about it twice and then again.

What a disappointment!
  1 / 10
Today we (a party of 12) attended the Sunday Buffet at Mr Pangs to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday. Whereas on previous occasions we have always enjoyed going to this establishment for a treat - today was a complete disaster! During the course of the meal, we encountered 4 members of staff, all of which were extremely unhelpful and frankly bordering on rude. The drinks waitress nearly poured a drink over me and when I pointed out that the drink in question wasn't actually for me, she said "no but it's easier for me to put them here" - basically, she just dumped all the drinks on the table and expected me to serve the party.

Throughout the meal, members of staff were yelling at various diners' children (even when they were behaving). My 3 year old was told off by a member of staff (very publically) for looking at the fishpond in the middle of the restaurant - he was only innocently looking and frankly most small children would want to see the fish.

On previous occasions when we have attended this restaurant for a birthday, the staff have willingly played the "happy birthday" music and this always added to the spirit of the occasion - today we were told that they wouldn't do this during the Sunday buffet (even though we had pre-booked and they were happy to do this for us a year ago at my brother's birthday lunch) - my poor Mum was very disappointed.

To top it all off, having accrued a bill somewhere in the region of £150-£200 (including a couple of paid drinks per head) the staff refused to serve me a glass of tap water. I queried this with the owner I was told "that's my rule!" and he turned his back and walked away from me.

The service was more akin to a (poor) soup kitchen than a standard that should be reasonably expected from any restaurant.

Customer service? They couldn't even spell it!...
