The Bell at Hampton Poyle
  6 / 10
This hotel was a bit of a disappointment. The food was fine is a little over zealous on the service. The room was the real downside. Our booking form said we had a king size bed and a monsoon type shower. We had a double bed and a bath. The bathroom had no radiator and was cold. There was nowhere to put any lotions and potions, so they were in a bag on the floor. The bathroom door didn't close and a light bulb was missing. There was NO HAIRDRYER. That was unbelievable for a 5* property. The room was cold and the heating couldn't be switched on. The room was quaint but maybe they should have told us it was only suitable for short people. There was a beam across the room which we kept knocking our heads on. There was no fridge and you were offered a cup on milk on arrival. The door to our room had a scruffy piece of paper stuck on it with the number and the door could not be shut without banging it and waking up everyone else. I really cannot believe it has five star accreditation. I would put it at three star. THE BREAKFAST WAS DELICIOUS.

Fantastic Place to Stay
  10 / 10
Wow! My husband and I have just returned from our visit to The Bell at Hampton Poyle. What a fantastic place to eat, drink and stay. The staff are friendly and make you feel very welcome. Our evening meal was gorgeous and the breakfast was out of this world! We will be telling all our friends about this wonderful find and counting down the days to our next visit. Ask for Room 3, it's the best!

Extremely enjoyable
  8 / 10
I have never written a review before, but was compelled to after our visit here in mid June 2009. We had an excellent meal in very nice surroundings. (If you like this, try also the Trout at Wolvercote). Main courses averaged around £13-15, starts at about £7 and sweets at £5. Houses wines from £15. We skipped the starters but enjoyed a very nice Rump Steak (10oz £15) with a peppercorn sauce and chips, and a fantastic lamb dish with pureed peas and duchess potatoes. No extras to pay for vegetables either. Both sweets were excellent, a chocolate sponge with an orange suace centre and a lemon tart with a caramlised top and raspberry sorbet and coulis. Total bill with two glases of wine and a coke, a smidgeon over £50. Very nice, and we shall certainly go again.

Gorgeous pub, delicious and interesting food and stunning bedrooms..
  10 / 10
I ate here for my birthday recently and was terribly impressed. Iâ??d been looking forward to it for quite some time and was not disappointed. We enjoyed lovely wines, fantastic food and were even treated to garlic and cheese pizzabread nibbles cooked in the large, in-built oven. The menu was very interesting with a wide selection of foods at varying prices, so one can either choose from the good value â??pub grubâ? style food, or spoil yourself with one of the more expensive Specials, often something along the fish or shellfish line. My Father said the steak was one of the best heâ??d had in years, â??quality produce, darling!â? and I had the grilled prawns (as big as shoes), string chips and salad. The service was thorough and very friendly, with the one complaint we had (a parsley/coriander mix up), being immediately and professionally handled by our young waitress. My boyfriend and I were also lucky enough to stay in one of the rooms upstairs for the night. We were staying in one the stunning double suites. The bed was huge and very comfy, beautiful pictures adorned the walls and we had a massive shower with the vast shower heads that knock you off your feet. They have been beautifully decorated and I could quite happily have moved in then and there. The next morning we enjoyed a fantastic cooked breakfast (cooked to order). All in all, a very enjoyable experience and highly recommended.

Fantastic.

My Girlfriend and I were in the Oxford area for a family wedding. One of our friends had recommended the bell to us, mentioning that it had newly opened and that they had greatly enjoyed an evening meal there.
We stayed for two nights in a very spacious ensuite double bedroom and had breakfast and an evening meal there. The service was fantastic, the staff were friendly, efficient and polite.

The main restuarant is covered with stunning photographs, one of which I was compelled to purchase.

Dinner was a joy, the food came quickly, tasted great and the dessert was also very tasty.

As for the comments posted below in regards to the pizza, my girlfriend had one and was pleasently suprised as we had read the reviews below before coming.
