I am sorry to say that I was apalled by the service at this bed and breakfast. The website offers a warm welcome when in fact our experience was the complete antithesis of that. I had explained we had a toddler aged 2 and was informed that this would not be a problem as children were welcome. However upon arrival we discovered no high chair at breakfast and not even a booster seat. The breakfast table was within a few inches of the cooker and my back was almost touching the frying pan handle which is very dangerous. My childs place was directly in front of the frying pan which I feel is very irresponsible of the couple running this establishment. Our bedroom was up two flights of stairs and yet there were no stair gates. No milk was supplied in the room in order to make cups of tea as we wished - we had to ask for milk and when we returned at the end of our first day there nobody was available to ask. No bin liner had been put in our bin and a peppermint tea box was empty. C.D's were missing from their covers and the folder of information was filled with patronising instructions such as having to ask for a demonstration to use the television as it had access to sky. I have to say resentment that we were even present filled the air from the moment we arrived and there was a feeling as though we were in someone elses house and not welcome. in addition, there was no shower which for some is a bit of a problem. In our case we found the water to be scalding hot - far too hot to wash our hands in and we were unable to let our toddler was their hands unless the basin was filled first. I am disappointed to have to write this because we paid £200 for a two night stay and felt that should have afforded us some reassurance that we were going to be catered for. This bed and breakfast seem to think you are intruding in their house and I don't feel that is a good way of running a business.

I whole heartedly agree with the last comment on ROWLIES chip shop main st Pembroke. Unfortunately My wife and I are local (Pembroke Dock) and although we don't want to discourage tourism because it is a large industry in Pembrokeshire, I would advise u avoid this hole!!
My wife ordered food for our three little boys after feeding the ducks and was asked by the woman eat in or take away? my wife replied take away.
The kids then asked if they could eat in so my wife ordered a coffee to drink in house and the kids started eating, the lady behind the counter then came over and said u told me u were taking ur food away so my wife replied the kids want to eat in if there is a extra charge i don't mind paying it. The woman who is the owner of ROWLIES said no u need to leave and was extremely rude. My wife stated that she was disgraced at the service she received and told the owners she would not be returning, to which they replied we will do okay without you!! I am ashamed that this is a so called award winning chip shop who on earth would give them an award? so please if your visiting Pembroke which is a lovely place and not full of arrogant simple minded people like these just avoid this so called excuse for a chip shop...

For 2 hours of play under 4's are charged £4.20 and over 4's £4.90 there are food facilities at reasonable prices and the equipment is in good condition baring in mind it is several years old. The centre is only open Fri, Sat and Sun 10-4 and gets very busy if the weather is not so good. Children with special needs are to be supervised at all times so this allows adults into the centre. I would give the centre 8/10 much better, cleaner, friendlier and safer than Molly's at ocean terminal and The Jelly Club at Craigmiller.

I was very disappointed with Dominic's, Dunlop Street, Renfrew as they have various certificates dotted around the walls showing how well they have done in PAST national competitions! What a load of nonesense! The chips were mediocre and the hamburger had been kept hot for an hour or more, the food was disgusting!!!!!

Upon arrival at the hotel we were led to our (v small) room. We asked the young lady if we would be able to leave our bags for an hour or two the next morning as we were checking out and had a wait until our holiday cottage was ready. She said this would be no problem. The following morning we were awoken early by a man in the next room speaking on his mobile phone. The walls were paper thin and we could hear every detail of his call! The most disappointing thing however, was that the owner said we could not leave our bags anywhere (as we had been told) and insinuated that 'what did we expect when we had only stayed one night'. She thus proceeded to speak in a rude, abrupt manner and we left the building. I must say I have never come across this in all the hotels I have stayed in and I would never go back.

From Australia we were referred to this establishment by local tourist information Office. We found The host affable helpful and full of knowledge of surrounding area. The House was extremely clean and well appointed with everything a traveller needs. The room was comfy and had magnificent view across the valley. The food was a high standard and plenty to nourish you for a days activity. The service was first class.
Mark helped us locate a friend in Newcastle on Tyne, and following our departure he contacted our friends and advised them that we had left some articles behind.I contacted Mark and he arranged to forward them to us. They duly arrived and we were able to continue our trip without loss of phone or cameras. What more could you ask of a host.

on recommendation visiting The Goat in shepperton for a calvery with my family we were very dissapointed, the meat was lovely but the vegetables were very poor potatoes were hard, the yorkshire puddings were dry and burnt, sprouts were dry and obviosly been there for a long time. After complaining to the manager Mr.Malcolm Roper he was very rude and obnoxious, his attitude and customer service were very bad. The table opposite us were also complaining about the food. Mr. Roper did not try to defuse the situation so we asked for his managers name and number, he proceeded to give us the goats number, which was not what we were asking for. He was so rude and we would not visit this calvery again and would not recommend it. WE ARE TAKING THIS MATTER FURTHER.

my partner and i joined the leisure club, and had been going for a few months, and reasonably happy.

one day in the gym overheard this younger girl and her friend chatting away, the one girl was talking about her job at the belfry.

upon leaving gym this member of staff made some snyde comment about me, which i don't think i was supposed to hear, but i did.

called the leisure centre manager, took a few calls on my part to get any action taken, i was promised calls back that never arose.

after a while of waiting the manager said she would discuss the matter with the girl concerned, and get back to me.

finally got back to me after several calls back to the belfry, spoke with the manager and she informed me the girl would be disciplined and the matter would be delt with internally.

by way of and a appology i got a coulpe of poxy vouchers for friends or family to attend the gym for free for a day.

thats how sorry they felt, i guess they don't take matters like that very seriously.

after being insulted myself by a member of staff, i wouldn't wish it upon anyone else, so the thought of anyone else i knew wanting to go there is bizzare.

watch who you spaek to there, and if a guest or gym member is insulted, they don't really seem to be too bothered anyway.

I have stayed at this Hotel for the last 3 yrs. I have always had a good time there the staff are so friendly and helpful, food is basic but good. The entertainment at night has been brilliant. I have made friends there with the regular people who go the same time as I. My 4 yr old daughter loves it there, and when we go each year she remembers them and they watch out for her which is great.

And yes you guessed it im off there again in 3 wks time!! and my daughter and i cannot wait!! 8/10 for me

I attempted to enjoy a family lunch at this establishment. I've been told the food is great but unfortunately I never got to sample it (even though I was made to pay for it). Complain at your own risk! The management of this place is an utter disgrace and have been reported to Trading Standards - you have been warned!!!

My husband and I recently ate here or should I say didn't eat here! I left half of my steak and chips meal because it was inedible. The chips were swimming in oil but almost raw! The waitress took my plate and asked whether it was ok-blatantly obviously not I would have thought-anyway when I said it was not she just said she would inform the chef. We paid in full for our meals but when we left the more I thought about it the more incensed I was at myself for not demanding a discount on what was completely overpriced totally disgusting food. I felt so strongly about this I wrote a letter of complaint to the owner which some 2 months later surprise surprise has not been responded to! We would NEVER eat here again as too many really good pubs around. Would advise anyone else to steer well clear of a pub that can not even do steak and chips when they have superb ingredients (the quality of the meat was undeniably very good, just ruined totally by a completely incompetent chef.

My family arranged a party to celebrate my graduation, the buffet was fantastic, cold and hot, especially the landladies homemade curry, corned beef pie and coleslaw. We were made very welcome and pampered by both the owners. I would definitely recommend the Railway for a special occassion, next time we will make use of their B&B for people coming from outside the area.

they have startrd doing a takeaway/delivery pizza service.
we ordered two 9" pizza's the other weekend, it took an hour to arrive even though we are about 10 minutes away from them in a car.

opened the box, was a bit shocked at the size of it to be honest nicely presented though.

i didn't think it was really worth £7.50 i can order from another place we go to and get a 10" pizza for £3.99, so its hot cheaper and bigger ,and in my eyes better all round.

further more the other place we order from is further away from us, yet it arrives hotter, and quicker.

not a bad effort though.

Where to start? Guaranteed parking( a rarity in this area,)a warm welcome from the owner, luxury en-suite room( immaculately clean we may add)with fridge and microwave, stunning views, hearty breakfast, and more advice on places to go than there is time to visit. Mine host was always on hand for any enqiries, and we felt very comfortable indeed.
Bryn Bella is a mere 10 minutes walk from the town centre, yet far enough to encourage a relaxing atomosphere.
We cannot recommended Bryn Bella enough and will be back, that is for certain.

Paul Thomas
Rosemary Robertson

upon arrival, we were greeted with smiles from the staff on the front desk, very helpfull and informative.

got into the room, upon entering smelt a bit musky, not sure if it was the air con or not, but wouldn't expect that from a five star hotel.

on the evening we chose to dine in the brasserie, i opted for the carvey, you can't go too far wrong.

the guy in front of me in the que, asked for extra meat i think the chef must of had enough that day.

got to serve me asked what would i like, i said can i have a mixture.

he then says to me " is that it " i think he meant to say " is that ok for you sir " or something along those lines i was expecting.

no personallity, couldn't even raise a smile.

she went for the mushroom linguine, tasteless, bland, not worth the money.

i could have cooked better myself, the dish got the salt treatment to make it more interesting.

later on that evening we went for a drink in the bar, took ages to get served.

the irish girl next to me at the bar was complaining about how long she had been waiting, and said if she was in ireland now she would have been served, and the bar staff would have been saked for being too slow.

the room was ok apart from this funny smell the bed was massive, really comfy.

i didn't really sleep too well as the couple in the room above us felt a bit randy in the early hours.

think they should replace the bed's more often, or check the springs.

our beds were two single beds cleverly disguised as a double bed, cunning !!

if you stayed on the 28th of june and had a room overlooking the car park, thanks a bunch !! have more consideration for other people trying to sleep.

and finally breakfast, it was self service so no problems there until i got back to the table.

i discovered a black hair in my meal, if they use hair nets in the kitchen then they should be more careful in future.

overall a good place, but let down by certain members of staff because most other staff even took the trouble to say hello to you when passing by.

if your reading this review and you are a hotel inspector, i would strongly suggest you pay a visit sometime soon.

Overpriced food, from an unchanging menu, served by people who are not properly managed and have had no training. Probably due to lack of training trouble can now blow up and the staff can neither stop it nor handle it themselves. Indifferent wine list and, again, wine is not properly served. Spy cameras everywhere. One to be avoided.

We have been to the Cottage more times than I care to remember over many years and have never had a bad meal. The food is always freshly cooked and the portion sizes large. The service is friendly and swift even when busy. The cottage have a series of menus ranging from their suberb "Feast for a Fiver" up to around £12 per head all for three courses. The great joy is coming out having spent less than £20 for two people including drinks and knowing you haven't been ripped off. P.S. Try the home made Steak and Kidney Pie!!

We're a bit further away now but still do our best to pop in.

Run by three italian brothers, the food is authentic and the prices very reasonable.
A group of 6 adults and 5 kids met for a catch up and Sunday lunch at The Gate. We sat in the conservatory which was great as it meant the kids could play outside and we could watch them safely. The service was quick and efficient. A great choice from a wonderful Sunday roast (beef, lamb or chicken), specials board, and menu with lots to choose from steak to salad. Kids menu at £2.95 and HUGE portions, my children could have shared a meal and still had leftovers. Would highly recommend esp as with drinks it came to £140 for us all each having 3 courses!

We have been to the tilley raven in the week and had superb meals and service, but today, we went for sunday lunch, and we were very disappointed. We booked a table for 1pm dispite being told sundays werent busy and there was no need to book.

We arrived 10mins before hand to get a drink and settle at our table. We waited 15 minutes before we asked the waitress if we could place our order(should be table service). We ordered 3 starters, which we ended up cancelling because we had waited a further 40 mins for it, people who had come in after us got there meals first. We spoke to the manager and he explained the waitress had got our order wrong.

We had our main meals and nobody was satisfied, the meat was untasty and dry with a lot of fat, and the vegetables were dry and hard. Once we finished the meal, no body asked us if everything was ok, instead the waitress took our plates with an attitude and aggressivly stacked them in front of us. We had no discount or anything because of the bad service and food.

We will not be going there again.

We have booked here twice. The first occasion was satisfactory, average in all categories, for the price. The second was for our son's wedding nearby, in which we had a key organisational role. The booking for 3 nights was made 2 months in advance, and PREPAID. With 2 weeks to go an e-mail was received cancelling the booking, and returning payment on credit card. Likewise a booking for family friends made at same time as ours. Reason? -- urgent refurbishment. Phoned hotel, but couldn't get past reception, who were unhelpful, and their explanation unconvincing. Spent worrying few days trying to arrange alternative at short notice (LateRooms very helpful here). Have never encountered such disgraceful behaviour from a British hotel before, and advise anyone thinking of booking here to consider carefully. Is this operation basically unreliable?

I do not believe that the picture does the hotel much justice, but i think that the above comment is not valid at all. I stayed there for a week last year and had no negatives at all. there may not be disabled access to the higer floors, but there are rooms on the ground floor for this purpose. and staff were always more than happy to help. The rooms are also cleaned and towels replaced on a daily basis.
My partner and I went to Tarsus in March 08 and we had an absolutely wonderful meal. We tried the meze, which we had to eat slowly as there was so much food! It had lots of traditional dishes in it, like halloumi, houmous, taramasalata, kebabs, moussakka, firin!!! The wine list was great and very extensive. We went on a saturday evening and it was relatively busy, and had a good atmosphere. The waitresses were very nice and helped us choose. The food seemed very fresh and good quality. Next time we go, we'll bring our friends and go for a plate smashing night!

On arrival nobody on reception Downstairs lounge locked we rang the bell nobody came one of us went to the kitchen found a young lady who did eventually come, only one registration card compleated for one room we booked and paid in advance £80 per couple for two sea views we explained that to her but fell on deaf ears. The rooms were cramped amd musty the carpet in ours had an iron burn on it.Having been out for the day we came back to change & shower our toilet had vomit stains down the outside (we took photos as we could not find anyone to complain to)Our friends said they had to clean there pan as was dirty. When we got back at 11.15 that evening the downstairs lounge bar was still closed. The upstairs lounge is big and intimadating with two chairs looking out of the bay window so anyone else is looking at the rear of people. We were given no information regarding breakfast times, bar opening times, on the back of the bedroom door was an information form and the only time compleated was vacating your room by 10 a.m.( we again took photos)The only communication to all four of us during our stay apart from giving us the keys was would you like Tea or Coffee? mixed toast? A full breakfast? The breakfast was of pore quality my friends said the tea bags were also the cheapest. When we left we put the keys on reception still nobody in authority around though they had already got our money.Having looked at other Hotels on the Sunday you can do a lot better than the Castle View Hotel. The Sea View rooms are in the front and you get all the noise from the party goers and the local authority send the street cleaner during the early hours.

Do NOT favour this place with a visit. The house looks fine from the outside, and the internal decorating is nice- but thats about it.
The atmosphere is not welcoming at all. I arrived late - my flight was delayed. No one answered the door, so I had to use my cellphone. The owner opened, rather angry, and told me I had arrived on the wrong date. I knew this wasn´t true, since he had confirmed my booking by email the day before. To be treated as a pest just because I wanted the key to a room I had paid for wasn´t nice. The owner didn´t apologize when he found out he was wrong. It seems the bookings are treated in a haphazard sort of way, I had to change room in the middle of my stay.

The rooms were dirty. The beds were teribble- you could feel every individual spring in the matrass, stinging your back. They lacked the additional "bedding-madrass" that normally goes with these type of bed. In the bathroom there were worn-down bar soaps with hairs still clinging to them. The shower took 10 minutes to warm. The chair, the TV-table, everything was dirty. The remote controls were appalling, I cleaned them myself. The teacup and spoon from the previous occupant had not been changed.
The room was noicy, the neighbourhood not nice, police cars were frequently passing on the busy road with sirens on. The rooms was either not heated at all, or, in intervals, the radiotor was at full blast, making the room steaming hot. Breakfast was sloppily served and not good.

So-do not be fouled by the description and picture of this guest house! Choose another one!!!! I am used to simple travelling conditions- but a youth hostel in Sweden is ten times better than this!!!!
Maria, Swedish

The beer and food in here are good but there is an impression that the staff are confused about the internal policy of when kids are or are not allowed in. I've taken the kids on several occassions during different times of the day and on different days, and it's pot luck whether we are going to be turned around or not - the general opinion being 'no kids after food is finished', but that's not altogether how it works.
This place should concentrate on sorting out its internal politics and establishing set policies.
In the meantime there's always the Corner Pin just around the corner who are more than happy to welcome families and serve up great food.

Loughton Manor Equestrian Centre is an amazing riding school with so many great facilities. It is situated in a beautiful country side with local parks to go through on hacks. There are many acres of land for all the horses that stay there. In the fields are fun yet challenging cross country courses. Back in the outdoor areaner are great jumps and very nice flooring. In the indoor areaner are good seeting places for watchers. The best part about the ridng school is that all of the staff are really nice, especially Shibon who left 2 years ago. A special feature of the school is the summer camp in the holidays, it is a week packed full of fun activities and owning your own horse for a week. it consists of 2 hours of riding a day, 3 delisious meals everyday and a great house to stay in and be with your friends.

Alexandra
Age 13

Stay here at your peril!.

The abysmal service was so bad that I honestly thought that a TV crew were going to jump out at say that I have been had 'Jeremy Beadle Style'.

The Management were so RUDE! Upon arriving some of my party were left waiting in reception for over 20mins, when the 'Receptionist/Manager finally lumbered along, she just grunted and demanded payment. At no point throughout the stay did she crack a smile, only a grimace.

I asked for a couple of glasses with some ice for the room and was told "We don't have glasses in the room a people fight, and if you want ice you can go down the road..they sell bags for £1"....I was gobsmacked.

You are only allowed one key per room, no matter how many people stay - and if you dare ask for another key you are questioned as to why you want extra keys, and you have to put a £20 deposit down.

One of my party rang the bell at 11pm as she did not have a spare key to get in and she got a mouthful from the Receptionist who screamed at her for daring to ring the bell at that time!

The rooms were grotty and shambolic, filled with odd furniture and the bedside lamps had the bulbs taken out of them. It was a horrific example of a Hotel and I cannot understand why the staff would want to work in the service industry when they clearly hate people!

SHOCKING.

I took my boyfriend to Charlie's to celebrate his birthday today. Half way through our starters I found a black, curly hair in mine. That successfully ruined the rest of the meal for me. A waitress took the plate away very fast and front of house sneaked over and apologized quietly, probably not to scare other few customers away. My boyfriend enjoyed his starter of squid but his main course, which supposedly was veal, looked and tasted like a sheet of paper in loads and loads of breadcrumbs with a pile of pasta with tinned chopped tomato. My main course was quite edible- spaghetti carbonnara but I didn't really enjoy it wondering what I might find in it. Anyway, £32.10 is a bit too much for that meal (no drinks ordered), even after minusing the unfortunate starter (£5). I don't think we would be going back to Charlie's any time soon.

Whether you want a quite snack or a family meal, Jossals is the place to go. Great service by friendly proprieters and crew, nothing is lacking in this establishment. I have had the pleasure of eating here, and at thier previous premises [ not as much as I would like to ]for a number of years and find the whole package wanting of nothing. Rercently my wife attended a family function at Jossals, unfortunately owing to work commitments I was unable to acompany her. I was cheered admirbly on my return home, finding my dear wife had procurred from them a superb chicken curry which would have been at home in any curry house through out Britain. So good on you Jo Sal Nick and Max and the crew, cannot wait for my next encounter with your gastronomic delights

I would say the sun play area is nice for the kid,s although i didn,t feel their were any staff watching close enough as a parent it is our job too watch our children but in some situations we cannot tell other children off and i feel it would better if staff were on hand ,(i know they are behind the counter but usually joking about ).
The food was ok my partner and i have been a few times now and decided too go with tnhe kids after going too a few party,s their but my partner did not enjoy his food and mine was ok as far as a chicken burger goes the childrens nuggets/ balls were ok but a little too hard for my little girl too eat so left her with chips ,Also i paid by card and was told it hadn,t gone through and should do it again after a few attempts i was told it was fine after arriving home and checking my bank i noticed it has come out 3times ,on phoning the company i am told too bring my recite and a statment and card recite and money will be issued back taking 7 too ten days ,i was put on hold as the girl answering said she had too ask a manager the manager did not answer the call the girl returned too say what i should do (no appolagies ).

Hi There,

I live in a small village called Upton, outside Pontefract, with no chip shop. After trying surrounding villages (they were ok chippies, if you know what I mean), someone mentioned The Park View chippy at Featherstone. I thought what the heck 10/15 mins drive away, I was desperate for decent batter and chips! So I googled it for directions and it appeared on your site. 'It was great' and I just wanted to say that, after noticing your 'post a comment' sign. The people were really friendly and the food was fab. I've been back now a couple of times, as it's worth the journey. Thanks for the full address.

P.Walker

I have eaten at this restaurant many times and have always found it to be one of the most enjoyable places I have ever been to. The food is always wonderful (and being 241, it is excellent value for money), the drinks are very reasonably priced, and the staff are always so friendly and willing to help you in any way they can. If you want my advice...you should definitely give The Highfield a try!!!
